Number plates

Featured Replies

I ordered some plates from Demon Plates on Tuesday evening - they arrived this morning.

With so many people thinking of taking the plunge with a personal reg I thought this might be useful info, as I know I umm'd and ahh'd for a while over where to get mine from.

I wanted plates that were as clean as possible (and yet still legal!)

I also wanted plates that didn't come drilled, so they can be glued to the car and thus avoid the chances of screws splitting the plates and going rusty.

They were £30 - but that includes a full fitting kit and delivery. They're marked with the 'BSAUetc' mark, the maker's name and their postcode. These marks are tiny and in the bottom right hand corner.

They're covered in blue plastic as protection. Fitting kit includes screws and adhesive strips.

Now I just need the flaming car!

they're really good.

what do they mean to you?

IMO i wouldnt recommend displaying reg plates in full on a public forum tbh its safer too cover some off the text

eg:

people get to see them on the road so i don't understand why there is the need to cover them up on the internet

Steve - I agree. It's photobucket's fault - I swirled it out in a manner just like you showed, but for some reason you were still able to get the original image. <_<

I've put some new number plates on mine too, Secureplates. 100% anti theft and look great http://www.secureplate.com/ Cost £39.99 including the 1 hour fitting time

They are good :)

Mine were free because I can get them done at Matt's work :)

Is it not illegal to have a web address along the bottom?

Is it not illegal to have a web address along the bottom?

Nope - it has to have contact details for the plate supplier (in this case the web address and their postcode) and the BSAU mark.

I'm not sure about web addresses as plate slogans, but that's not what these are.

Dan, out of interest i was hoping you could answer a couple of questions

1 ) how long did the plates take to arrive? now that i am seriously considering purchasing my plate in the near future i wanted to get some plates made whilst i have the funds!

2 ) will you give your plates to your dealer to fit? i would presume that the dealer would fit their own plates to the car with their emblems on them and obviously you don't want them!!

thank you for bringing this site to my attention, after looking for a while there isn't any other site that offers no emblems, a fitting kit and tiny font of their details!

Morning Mike -

1. I ordered on a Tuesday evening (late) and they arrived on Thursday morning.

2. No, I plan on doing it myself. My dealer has registered the new car with my plate, so I will pick it up with the correct plates affixed. BUT they're full euro badged plates and have a horrible dealer logo on a black strip at the bottom. My plan is to fit the demon plates with the supplied adhesive strip (no screws at all then) and keep the dealer fitted plates for the rare occasions I drive abroad. Or, I may just get some magnetic GB badges and keep the clean plates on then too.

thank you for answering my questions :)

i shall get them once i have the money and have the documents back from the DVLA saying that the car was in my name!!

i was planning on getting some legal pressed metal plates but the one company i have found that does them says you have to send them the documents of your ownership of both the car and the plate and i don't want to risk sending them such vital information

i'll have to source some more adhesive pads at some point as i will be getting some colour coded bumpers at some point so will have to rip them off the black bumpers and restick them on silver!!

I'm looking at getting some new reg plates to replace the dealer ones which look a bit naff. Can anyone recommend where to buy them from? I had a look on www.platecreator.com, looks good as far as I can see.

I just want the reg and nothing else on the plate, although I heard there has to be at least some very small text in a corner or something for legal reasons. Also what about screw holes, are they always in the same place and can you choose whether they are drilled or not?

And sorry for resurrecting this old thread, I don't know if mods prefer that over starting a new one :lamo:

You can get plates made up on eBay or lots of sites on the net. You can specify what you want on them just make sure they sell road legal if you are really concerned. Most don't ask for any documents and charge from about £9 a plate.

Oops forgot they will not be predrilled so you will need sticky pads to fix them or you will have to drill them yourself not difficult just use the old ones as a template

Unless the old ones were put on wonky. I've made that mistake before :D

Yeah that's a good idea. I'll have a look around, and yes I'll make sure they're road legal.

It would be good to see some pics of what the plates look like on the car and where you all got them from.

I found one on ebay which had sold thousands of them, their site is www.proplates.co.uk.

Here's what the plates would look like (and no this isn't my reg):

Do those look road legal? The price is £19.98 although on ebay it's listed at £10.99

ebay price will probably be for each plate

Not legal as they do not have the postcode of where they are printed on them.

I've used Demon Plates before and I really recommend them. Great service, guaranteed road legal and not too bad with the turnround time either.

I think you may be right, I found this on Wikipedia:

"The material of UK number plates must either comply with British Standard BS AU 145d,[2] which states BSI number plates must be marked on the plate with the BSI logo and the name and postcode of the manufacturer and the supplier of the plates or..."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_the_United_Kingdom,_Crown_dependencies_and_overseas_territories#Current_system

But I found some other info contradicting this, basically some people are saying any garages that are failing MOTs due to no postcode on the plates are confusing the legislation. Can anyone clarify this?

Also I find it hard to believe that a company that has sold nearly 17000 of these plates on ebay would still have 99.9% positive feedback if they are selling illegal plates. Unless they do put the postcode on and just don't show it on their website.

I also wanted some new plates. So I got looking only to find out about the million different rules regs etc got bored and still not figured it out ! I wanted some smaller 3D ones
