Saving Money On Services! Don't Get Ripped!

Was on the fiesta forum lately and people were getting ripped off for how much their second service was!
they were saying second service is £193 which is ridiculous! but i will get to this ..........

Here is a way to save ......
Just because Evans Halshaw, Bristol street motors (macklin motors if in scotland) all have the ford badge on them doesn't mean you getting best deal!

I personally go to Rapid Fit (known as tyre king in some parts) and they do the exact same service and stamp your book just as Evans halshaw BSM etc all do and at a cheaper rate!! as these companies know people are going to come to them because they have a ford badge on there sign its as simple as this so for this fact they rip you off with the prices!

back to the story now ..........
My second service wasn't £191 that many people are saying on the forum until I explained this to them ......
Mines was £120 for the exact same service and got book stamped too!

Here is quotes form the fiesta forum (called Ford Recommend)

Thanks again paramanic, I called ford mc this morning to check about potentially invalidating warranty (and it won't provided they use ford parts), so I've booked myself in at my favourite tyre and service shop in gloucester (about 12+ miles away from me!) and am going to save myself nearly 70 quids in the process (£125)

NICE ONE Laurie!
just remember if its got ford on the banner doesn't mean its the cheapest! they all have to do the same stuff but ive noticed Bristol street motors, maklin motors and evan halshaw all ford garages and all charge at a higher price because obviously they have ford on there name so a think people think oh ford they must do it cheapest and must be a standard price ......................not true as you have found out. ive been going to my rapid fit since i started driving and got a good relationship with them and my family have been going alot longer than me and he tells us straight! I recently had my light adjustment checked something ford would have charged 25 for and my local garage (rapid fit) said he had a bit of time 5mins later done and cost.....nothing! always a good way to build up relationships

I think this one should be made some kind of sticky, as I for one (as shown above) wasn't aware you're able to take your car to non ford outlets and still maintain the warranty. It'll also be good to get some regional promos for go out of their way good service outlets, which lets face it are becoming fewer and further between these days

Mine was the best service I've ever witnessed (I was watching), from Chris Mullins tyres in Gloucester, Gloucestershire, I'll certainly be going back there with the new car!

Never EVER go to Think Ford (now known as Think Fraud) in Guildford. I took my '10 Fiesta van in for a service and was told that it needed £5,000-worth of work on it (for an oil leak)

So I took it to another garage for a second opinion. A clip needed tightening up.

I've since found out that a few of my pals have taken their cars there and have had equally shoddy treatment.

You can get your car serviced at any garage as long as they use genuine ford parts and the warranty will still be maintained. Avoid ford garages to do simple things. They will just rip you off.

I don't trust dealers for small jobs I don't think need doing. My car went for its service and I was told it needed new bushings for 700 (they are prone to go but a good mobile mech can do it for 120) they also listed a load of other issues which were strong advisories, yet they weren't mentioned at the mot lol

Little jobs for me or little garages, big jobs however (such as timing belts and all that) I am tempted to take it to ford. The main reasons include getting a courtesy car while they have it, and not even ford know for definite if my car is a belt or a chain in the cassette for the fuel pump. If I leave it with them and they order the wrong part they can deal with it.

Glad I spotted this! (just joined).

Got my service coming up and I've been 'umming and ahhhing' whether to take it to Evans Halshaw (who sent me an email & text reminder since that's where I bought the car from and its my nearest Ford dealer) or to a independent garage who service all makes of vehicle (also a Good Garage Scheme member and one my Dad recommended to me).

It's a 3 and a half year old Fiesta (61 reg) so no longer under manufacturer's warranty.

For me, it would cost £175 for a 'manufacturer's service' (48 month) or £140 for an 'essential service' with Evans Halshaw.

I can't comment myself as ive never dealt with them, but from what I've read on here & what friends and family have said I would stay away from Evans halshaw. As long as genuine parts are used and the service book is stamped your warranty is still valid, but as yours has already expired you don't have to worry about that

Thanks!

Sorry to be a pain, but does it matter if the garage I use is a Ford specialist or not? (being a new driver I'm still apprehensive/paranoid when it comes to servicing etc).

This is the garage I intend to use if I don't go to Evans Halshaw: http://www.ashtonautos.co.uk/content/car-servicing-preston

Apologies if I seem to be 'hijacking' this topic.

Unfortunately, it seems as if your Fiesta is just too young for the Ford Motorcraft 4+ year service. One hidden bit of value in the Motorcraft service is that the mobility insurance is included (unless, of course, you've already got mobility insurance from another source, when it probably is of little value to you).

Do it yourself!! cheapest way maybe the first time may not after buying tools but after a service or 2 it will pay for it self.

Talking of Rapid Fit, which was Ford's own version of kwik Fit, etc, so they are Ford trained mechanics anyway. I always just have an oil+filter change every 10kmiles, approx £50 using genuine Ford parts. Everything else, air, fuel, pollen filters, brake pads n disks, etc I just do myself and with the cash saved I can buy tools to make the next job easier. I learn that way too.
