My 04 plate 2.5 turbo Ranger will not stay in fifth gear just pop straight out Ok in all the other gears. No noise or vibration. Any one had this problem?

    Sounds to me like a synchro issue, either way unless you are exceptional with a spanner, I would say get it in to a garage, probably best its a transmission specialist...

    Not good news total rebuild required (£1000) not including the labour to remove and refit the gearbox.

    Well she is back plus new gear box came to £1500 all in. Sad that a truck with such low millage eneded up need a new gear box :o

    I hope so although I am considered a new pick up soon just not sure it will be a Ford after this issue.

    Its not a ford really, mazda with a ford badge, known to have mainshaft wear issues with the mazda box, have you tried the new ford ranger?
