Refuelling Problem

Featured Replies

Not sure if anyone else has experienced this? Mk7.5

When filling up the pump keeps stopping, like the handle snaps, as if some mechanism in the car is causing it to cut off. Only way to fill up is by doing it really slowly.

This has happened at more than one garage now.

I'm certain the fuel nozzle is all the way in.

Anyone else?

Try pulling the nozzle of the pump out a fraction... should cure it. You'll get to the point where you know exactly where it needs to be.

Like mike has said that seems to solve it. I've found that out on mine as I was sick of only being able to pull the trigger about a quarter to fuel up. Now I just pull it out about millimetre and its fine then.

OK I'll try that next time, cheers guys

Mine seems fine if I insert it fully then angle it down (let the weight of the nozzle/trigger/hose do the job).

The easyfuel system is very sensitive to fuel pump nozzle position and delivery pressure.

Saying that, my local Sainsburys recently changed to a pay-at-pump system and since then I can't get fuel out at anything less than a trickle and I don't have easyfuel.

I'd say that their overfuel cut-off is too sensitive by miles.

Ford's easy fuel system is not always easy . . . the angle of the fuel nozzle, as described in Ford's owners manuals, seems vital to '' easy '' fuelling !

I've never had a problem with it

Nor have I - but some do !

I had an issue fueling a few months back, if I held the pump myself then it would keep clicking off, but if i let the pump rest naturally, using its own weight, it would work perfectly fine, i do it that way all the time now

^^^ . . that's the trick.

Im sure it says in manual to insert fully then let it rest down. I do exactly that and dont have any problems.

Same here with both the Mondeo & the Fiesta.

Think it should be compulsory to read the owners manual from cover to cover before taking delivery of your car, with a question and answer session before being handed keys. Lol, but there again it would be quiet on the forums.

Yup, if you let it rest then the nozzle leans again the back part of the filler pipe and the petrol flows out and across to the other side of the pipe. If you were to hold the nozzle up, it would lean into the front of the pipe where petrol would be thrown back up the nozzle initiating the auto stop feature.

Just returned from a day out in the High Peak after filling up this morning.

I thought I had filled the tank up to the brim and then found it was three quarters full.......Grrrr.

Had the car a year and the fuel cut off is a bit hit and miss for me but doesn't happen very often.

That happens to me as well! But it only happens at Tesco garages everywhere else it's fine!

I had same problem, and now I just put the pump in upside down...never had a problem since

Some garages are too trigger happy.

Had the same problem too, I thought a £25 to fill the tank was a little cheap lol

Yep, same here: every pump in the land, perfectly OK unless it's Tesco's. AAAARGH!!!

:D
