Fiesta Mk System

Featured Replies

This is one that's got me

Ford themselves don't use the mk system at all, so it's up to us consumers to use it just to differentiate between them all

Thing is the mk4 fiesta was the mk4, and that's all fine and happy, BUT the mk4 facelift was known as the mk5 not the mk4.5, even by this forums standards. so answer me this: why are we not on the mk8 or 9 by now, what's with all these .5's?

For instance if you say I have a mk7.5 fiesta to anyone outside this forum, ford showrooms included, they look at you as if you've just grown a second or third head, and wonder wtf you're talking about. You say the latest or the year they instantly know

Even parts for sale on eBay, you have to look for the year (2013+), as many use mk8 and 9

Who decided on this mk7.5 being right in the first place?

Disclaimer: I'm using 'this forum' as this is the one I use, if I were on several I'd say so

No idea what happened with the Mk4 and Mk5.

But the idea of the .5 system, on all Fords, is just to differentiate the facelift, the base car underneath is largely unchanged.

So I have a 3rd generation Ford Focus Facelift, hence Mk3.5

Ford actually use model years, which can change even when the appearance doesn't. So as far as Ford is concerned, my Focus is a 2015.25.

Same applies to the Mondeo . . the new '' MK 5 '' is in fact the 4th generation Mondeo - not the 5th !

It will however be commonly identified as a '' MK 5 ''

.5 is often used informally to denote a mid-term production run '' facelift ''

Wasn't the mk5 earmarked for being a new model? Usually a facelift only has a 2 year life span (maybe a tiny bit more) but I'm sure the mk5 was out for a fair few years? Which would explain the confusion.

Regarding the use on forms... just makes things easier as someone could buy a 2012 fiesta and it could be either the mk7 or 7.5 which would be more confusing in the long run :D

It just shows that dealers who don't know what a Fiesta MK 7.5 is, aren't really Ford people :P. I might try and find out next time I talk to a dealer, I'll say "it's a MK 7.5 ST" and see if they know what I mean lol.

It makes me wonder where these numbers came from, I assume owners clubs started it. And I've heard the MK5 was given that number because it looks so different to the MK4, or at least it looks different at the front, the back is the same. Apart from that it's a good system :)
