Esp Working ?

Featured Replies

How can i test if my esp is working properly ?

i have pressed the button and found sport mode and off and i presume the other setting is just on.

its just i seem to get too much wheelspin for me to think its working
properly. i had a similar system in my last car and it had more torque
and power but it did not spin up the wheels like this does. i presume
the skid sign on the dash would illuminate as the wheels started to spin
? it does not.

The esp light on mine (the one which stays illuminated in sport mode or off) flashes whenever the wheels start to slip, even if it only happens for a fraction of a second. The light actually stays on (or flashes, can't remember) for a short while afterwards too, certainly beyond the point when they've regained grip. They do spin up a bit, but you can tell the engine has cut power as the revs don't increase any more if you keep your foot down. With it turned off in mine (I've only tried this once uphill in the wet) they spin a lot faster once they lose grip, so the effects are certainly noticeable.

Can you feel any difference at all with it on or off? Does the engine hold back at all or does it just rev up easily once the wheels start spinning?

Edit: post number 1111!

will have a play tomorrow to check ...

I noticed my ESP light come on a couple of times when being a bit eager with the throttle coming off a roundabout, but noticed it does let the wheels spin a bit in the snow. Also it seems to hold back the power a bit if your floor it while coming out of a corner, or maybe that's the torque vectoring getting confused?

On mine the esp light flashes but it does still let the wheels slip a little and every car I've had with it on has done the same. In the corners Phil 87 I've noticed what you have and it's the advanced torque vectoring moving the power to the wheel with most traction and braking one rear wheel so the car turns in sharper. If I've understood it correctly it moves power to the front inside wheel and brakes the rear outside wheel. So if your turning right the power goes to the drivers front and brakes the passenger rear wheel.

I think the torque vectoring only brakes one of the front wheels, and doesn't have any way to move power (or torque) between the wheels, I could be wrong though.

I know on the ST it has the eVT system not just the normal tv system so works differently. I may have mis understood when I looked it up on line. But that's how it came across in the write up.

The ESP light will come on if traction control is kicking in (to stop wheel spin under acceleration..). To get ESP activation you really have to be doing something silly, and I've only done that on track. When ESP activates (usually when turning into a corner), you really now about it...
