Hybrid cars and new law.

When this new law comes out in a nice few years when they can't sell petrol/diesel cars on garages does the hybrid come into this being it's got both.

And in a nice few years will they fade out petrol/diesel at pumps as they did when the swapped over from 4-star petrol to unleaded.

I know a nice few years but this world is going mad, were be charging cars from home, working from home so petrol garages gone work places gone all online.

Hybrids will also be banned from sale in 2035...the idea is to remove all fossil fuel emissions from car exhausts. 

Hopefully hydrogen infrastructure will have been worked out by then though, you'll still need filling stations for the hydrogen.  Plus quick-charge electric ports will be fitted at filling stations as well.  Not to mention, people can't drive more than 2 miles without having to stop at a forecourt for a coffee and packet of sweets.

I don't like queuing outside Tesco this morning. Since the mask rule was introduced we've been able to just walk in the major supermarkets, but it seems they're reintroducing "traffic light" systems in response to the latest lockdown measures. Just as the weather is getting colder and wetter! 😠

It was mad so i just use the card option now and been doing it for a nice few months...card in...pin in......remove card......fill up and away with receipt of sale.

Sounds ideal...  Doesn't everyone try to cram in quickly on amber though?  

I tried a click & collect this week but can't say it was a success...    Will have to continue with shopping instore but can't work out what the quietest time is both for traffic and people in store now, if indeed there is a quiet time!

Same here from my Mrs. "Big" anniversary for us this year so we had all sorts of things booked, Fortunately like you we've managed to get refunds (after a 6 month struggle in one case) so hopefully we can try again next year, though Glum and Glummer (aka the Chief Medical and Scientific Officers) seem determined that we won't be able to.

Use Wynne's engine flush just before your next oil change,

Then after the next oil change; consistently purchase your fuel from somewhere else

Here is the rear of my cabinet inside the living room where all network, satellite and terrestrial services are distributed, A.K.A where all the magic happens

Below is the existing clipsal plate which I've fitted in the living room; it feeds three rooms upstairs, 

Has female sockets in the rear as well as the face to take pre-terminated cables.

I'll be replacing this with a five port clipsal face plate currently on order from electricalwholesaler.ie 

I've gotten the loan of an SDS drill from the maintenance department in work and  drilled a 12mm hole through from the rear of the existing network socket plate in the living room, I don't do enough DIY to own an SDS drill I just have an ordinary think there called HSS, 

Anyway; 

Here we are now inside the kitchen and it looks like a gun shot in the wall 😅

The wall is concrete block with 1.5" insulated plasterboard on both sides, which makes the job slightly easier when bringing the cables from the hole to the floor I can cut the wall using a fresh Stanley blade as it's only plasterboard with foam inside, 

The hardest job is then to use a hammer and chisel; to chip away the plaster along the bottom of the neighbouring wall behind where the skirting board would be; along underneath the radiator to a double socket close to the back door, 

I've then to take off that double socket and raise it up another foot higher on the wall fitting a double + single wall plate which is also currently on order from electrical wholesalers 

To then house the double socket and a twin plate containing two RJ45 sockets.

I'm currently waiting on the Keystone RJ45 socket inserts designed to fit in to the Schneider Electric clipsal classic wall plate; waiting for the inserts to arrive from Australia, purchased through eBay, 

Clipsal are manufactured by Schneider Electric whom are an Australian company, and although they provide a uk range of 240-250v sockets and switches; there auxiliary inserts are not freely available around here although they fit directly in to the UK wall plates, so I'm currently waiting for there arrival; here's a picture of one previously purchased along side a HDMI variant.

The next step then is to purchase a length of kitchen counter worktop from IKEA along with some brackets and a stainless steel leg for the front left corner of the top slightly above the height of the radiator there but not spanning across as far as the radiator; the top will come across from the right corner to around the same point as the dogs tail there 

I'll fit it to this corner with the new socket position being situated closely under the countertop; 

The plan then is to have an all-in-one network printer/scanner fitted on this countertop in the corner of the kitchen plugged in to the network which will increase desk space upstairs where the unit is temporarily in operation. 

I used to outsource all printing and scanning to our local library but since covid19 I've decided to become more self sufficient. 

Getting back to the main point again then; I don't like having to chase out the walls followed by filling and sanding,

I fitted masking tape over the plaster to help reduce egg shell cracking when cutting in with a Stanley blade. 

All cut through now;

Peeled off the masking tape,

Caught the inside paper layer of the plaster board and pulled which took out the centre pieces revealing the insulation,

I then cut out the insulation using a kitchen knife as the Stanley blade wasn't long enough. 

Now stripped out to the original block wall and chased out along the floor, 

My neighbor's stayed at home today so I decided to leave the hammer and chisel until tomorrow when it's officially a work day. 

I'll add all this information in to one single post on my living room project thread when it's finally completed in the coming weeks.

I'll be filling the holes with fire rated expanding foam then trim it back by a few millimetres for filling sanding and painting.

The majority of the cable will be just covered by expanding foam as it will be behind the skirting board or kick board as some may call it, 

Next stage of progress will be in a few weeks posting on the thread below as it will then be something which I do like.

Last night I received an email notification to say they have arrived in there destination country 🙂 and my next door neighbor's have breached the current lockdown rules; been away somewhere since friday; which gave me a great opportunity to hammer away today without disturbing anyone.

I first measured up 95cm from the ground to mark the top of the new socket location as the new corner worktop will be 100cm 

Which leaves 5cm gap in height above the socket to allow for some voltage adapter plugs to be used if ever required.

Started off with a hammer and an old flat headed screwdriver to gently chip away along the pencil markings to avoid taking away huge lumps of plaster; which would have been the result had I gone straight in with the lump hammer and chisel.

Once I had the plaster chipped down to the concrete blocks; and you will know this by the sound when hit, it's alot louder when hitting block compared to plaster, 

I then moved on to the lump hammer and chisel, 

Chipped away the plaster to reveal the concrete block beneath; 

Checked the 25mm first fix wall insert for size to be sure I had the opening the correct size prior to chipping away at the concrete block, 

The white PVC conduit feeds from the downstairs ceiling; down the wall to the socket; fed from the main switch board, 

I did switch off the power before commencing any work atall; 

I then used the flat head screwdriver and hammer to cut open the PVC conduit taking away millimetres at a time to cut it out both top and bottom, 

I then cut the free section of PVC conduit out using a snips; and gently pulled the cable up from the original socket below, 

Another thirty minutes of hammer and chisel made enough space for the new 25mm socket plate to fit in place; followed by two 5mm screw & wall plug to secure. 

I then marked out the lines which have to be chased out next to feed the two RJ45 cables from the living room wall up to the new socket on the wall; however I haven't chased it out yet as I'm going to wait for the RJ45 sockets to arrive in to my home then chase & fit the cables the same day to insure our dog doesn't chew the ends. 

I cut the excess electrical cable and wired in the socket; I'm awaiting delivery of another Schneider Electric clipsal classic double socket to fit in the original location with the power cable to it; being daisy chained down from the socket above. 

Further progress next weekend when hopefully I should have the RJ45 inserts; in my hands. 

Will be worth all the effort when it's finished, alot of filling and sanding to go after installation. 

Update on progress from above; 

i started hammer and chiseling the wall again yesterday morning and fitted the conduit.
started off with a small hammer and flat headed screwdriver to gently break in to the plaster on all areas to be removed before going at it with the lump hammer and bigger chisels.  

i kept stopping to check the depth and finally got it deep enough for fitting, 
to allow room for filling across the surface. 

with the vertical section complete, i then had a coffee prior to chasing out the plaster from along the bottom of the wall to allow space for the cables. 

i then ran in the two 7 meter Cat7 cables through from the living room to the new socket in the kitchen, 

I chased a good clearance around 15mm between the radiator pipes and the network cables which now have unibond foam insulation filling that 15mm gap. 

filled the large gaps and area along the floor with Unibond white-tec expanding foam, its four times thicker than other brands and remans consistent inside; meaning there's no large air pockets when you trim it back, 
I left it overnight to dry, 

I trimmed it back this morning using a kitchen knife, 
the area along the floor is cut flush with the existing plaster and wont need any further filling as it will be covered by a skirting board, 

however I've trimmed in to the wall a bit on the vertical sections to allow some space to apply some pollyfilla and sand smooth, 

I've now applied the first lot of filler around the conduit and leaving it now to dry, ill resume progress next weekend, 
I've purchased a small sample pot of Johnston's Neon red paint and a small brush a few months ago, 
I've applied it to areas where there are now pipes and network cables fitted inside the walls; where there is a risk the flooring installer may accidently drive a nail in to the wall, 

so this picture isn't photoshopped in any way lol that really is bright red paint on the bottom of the wall, 
makes it easier for me not to have to explain "don't put a nail here or here" I just say "don't nail anywhere that you see red paint" 
has worked for the floors upstairs as all radiators in my house now have the pipes exiting from the wall, makes it a lot easier to clean the floors. 
ill get back to filling and sanding smooth next weekend aswell as daisy chaining 2.5mm twin & earth cable down to the original double socket location from the newly installed socket.

i think my next post on this will be in the "Things I Do Like" thread; because it will then be finished lol

I don't like that very local to me there was a massive car crash where 5 in car and 4 died and i mean 5 mins walk as they hit a tree, young lives lost again

4 who died were 2 which are 16-year-olds and a 21-year-old driver and also this Saturday an 18-year-old was in hospital for 4 days after the crash but died.

All online .......Kingswinford car crash.....My feeling go out to the families.

I don't like missing a delivery today when I didn't even know it was supposed to be delivered. 
It looks like the place I ordered from forgot to include my contact details so the items weren't delivered. 
How am I supposed to plan for it when I don't even know it's due to be delivered? I only got the dispatch email at 7pm tonight. 

If the order is fulfilled correctly and all parts were shipped at the same time, there should be over £1400 worth of stuff (75 items). That's gonna be a lot of boxes. 
What gets me though is normally when I order from them, it takes over a week for the items to be shipped as some are on demand items. 
I hope they are going to deliver tomorrow and actually notify me this time.

Some delivery firms are a pain, amazon is hit-and-miss as tracking says 4 deliveries away, and then he pulls up, ring my and next door doorbell at the same time so the one who comes first has the parcel and the latest is ''item will be back in stock on a date'' then its on next day the normal prime, all great if you're in.

I don't think it was the delivery company's fault. I think it was the company I bought from who made a mistake. 
According to the delivery website, it will now be delivered today as requested (I didn't request it and didn't amend the delivery details). 
The order only contains 21 of the 75 items so there will be more to come soon. 

I've had that with amazon too. Some products are tracked and others aren't for some unknown reason, even if they are part of the same order and sold by amazon themselves. 
Also, delivery companies have a hard time finding my property. They either can't find it, go next door or go downstairs instead and can't be bothered working out that there's another entrance around the corner which is my flat.

I don't like realising how disgusting the inside of my windscreen was in the low sun this afternoon!   Could barely see silver and white cars...turns out DRLs are useless in that scenario, we'd be better off with USDM running lights!

Pre-emptive 'don't like' for tomorrow is how smeary the screen will actually be despite looking fine now!

I don't like that my dad was confirmed as having pancreatic cancer last week at Kings College Hospital in London. I think it was to be expected after all the crap he's been through from the beginning of August.

The doctor at the appointment did a great job at explaining everything and said at the time that it may be 4 weeks before the operation but it looks like he will be in for next Wednesday. Not the best time of the year to be heading into hospital, let alone everything else that is going on right now, but here's hoping for the best outcome out of a pretty poor situation.

I really hate the Ford dealership where I got my car it was serviced two weeks ago tomorrow and asked them why the cooling fan was always coming on and asked them to check it and they said there was nothing wrong now today it got hot and now the engine is now  knocking and and does not sound right.
