Mk 7.5 Engine Warning Light, And Misfire

Featured Replies

In London yesterday, power loss and engine warning light came on.

Only had about 20MPH at foot down.

Pulled over after about 200m thankfully and got recovered to the Ford Garage.

Guy ont he recovery wagon said it was a misfire in cylinder 3.

Any idea what causes it, Olaf is a 63 Reg with about 9k on the clock.

Servicing wasn't open yesterday PM so waiting to find out after they can diagnose it on Monday AM.

Also, with it still being under warranty, if its a long fix (timescale of doing the work) are they likely to give me a courtesy car?

Appreciate the help, no history with Ford Main dealers servicing son wondering how it works

Thanks

Dave

You should get a courtesy car under ford assist long as it's under warranty or its been serviced at a ford garage

Currently being told Friday before they can even look at it.

As such ford assist saying no courtesy car until they can diagnose what's wrong.

So technically a week of work I'll have to miss.

Not very good service so far

My car broke down last year ( turned out to be a relay ) and the AA guy came and said it would need towing to the garage , he organized a courtesy car straight away and we picked it upp within an hour, I'd be inclined to go back to the garage and insist on a car tell them you are unable to get to work. Our car broke down on a Saturday and the garage couldn't look at it until Monday yet we got a car the same day through ford assist .

They will not do anything until it is diagnosed by the garage (thursday or friday), and can't give me a hire car as its not part of the warranty agreement, nor a courtesy car as they have none.

And thats from Ford Service department themselves

Is all Ford Service like this?

I used to be with Smart (the smart car), and they went above and beyond when my car stared p***ing fuel on the way to the lake district. They gave us a brand new demo car with 4 miles on the clock for the weekend to go camping in the middle of the muddy fields with....

I must add, this was not the same dealer that i got it from. But still a main Ford Dealer

Sounds like coil pack on cylinder 3.

Contact the Ford Customer Service department ASAP ! The dealer is obviously failing to try and keep you mobile which is ridiculous ! They should diagnose within 5 minutes by plugging the car into a code reader and diagnose that way. This should allow a car to be released to you immediately even if the dealer cant fix your car till Thursday or Friday ..

Why are so many dealers !Removed! hopeless ?

Seems ford dealers are a bit hit and miss with the after sales

  • Author

I spoke to the customer service department who said they can't do anything till the dealer has diagnosed it.

Anyone know what the service level agreement is to diagnose the car?

The place i got it said the same day as it goes in (or first day they open), yet the dealer it is at say 48 hours... but due to how busy they are they cannot stick to it....

Ford customer service have said that there is no such agreement....

And yes, Ford so far after sales in service have been crap

When mine packed up last year I had a courtesy car delivered the same day before mine had been diagnosed. This was via ford assist rather the dealer. The dealer was charged by ford for the hire car so it was in their interest to get it sorted asap

Its Ford Assist who have said they won't do anything till the car is diagnosed, nor is 'A hire car or courtesy car part of the warranty package Ford Assist provides'

Thats direct from what I've been told by Ford Assist, rather than the dealer...

apparently its a coil pack that needs replacing

A) what is this

b ) Why would it fail after 9k miles?

Dave

It provides the high voltage required to produce a spark at the spark plug. In old cars it was a single unit called the coil but modern cars have one per cylinder and sit directly on the plugs.

Bad luck really. Think they can last year's or go quickly.

Had this happen on a Renault I used to have , two went first then a year later the other two went replaced both times under warranty.

Thank you everyone for your replies.

Will see what the garage say/do tomorrow and if the car is done.

Without sounding silly, would it be worth pursuing a free service of something?

Dave

I doubt you'll get anything but it's

annoying the diagnostics of that problem take so long. I know they can't stop working on other folks cars just to work on yours but when it's a suspect 5 minute job you'd think they would be able to quickly test for that and get it out the door.

Surprised the AA didn't offer to repair there and then but then guess you'd then need to pay it. Guessing £30.
