Plastic 'top' Of Gear Stick Coming Off?

Featured Replies

The plastic top (which hosts the gear number letting) appears to be coming off of my Mk 7.5 Fiesta.

Is this a common thing? Is there anything I can do without splashing the cash? I don't want to take it off and realise it had just snapped off.

I'm PXing it in May so don't want anything like this going wrong now!! Do you think Ford would repair under warranty?

The cap is designed to be removable for swapping over.

Lift it off and stick a couple of foam double sided adhesive pads under it or a dob of glue.

It is the little details like this which makes me glad to not have a fiesta for longer than 2 years...

Still, nothing a bit of bluetac can't fix for 2 months.. Out of interest, anyone know how much it'll cost for a new cap?

Don't buy a replacement one from ebay.

They're made in Bulgaria and are very cheap copies that don't fit.

The bluetac seems fairly firm, I will just leave it for the next lucky owner to deal with it..

If you find the blutac doesn't hold try Sugru (Homebase or ebay).

It sets like rubber and grips like you wouldn't believe.

Same part broke on my Focus, first time I was able to glue the broken clip back in place and it lasted for a while but I ended up buying anew insert eventually.

Seemed when I tired the repair that the clips angled inwards too much compared to their locating slots in the gear knob, so were forced outwards once clipped in place and over time I imagine the stress of this causes them to break?

Thanks for all of your help guys! It looks as if there's 3 clips actually broken inside the lever, 20 minutes of fiddling with tweezers did no good

Will check out Sugru if it comes off before the switch :)

I've used sugru for many things and it's cracking stuff.

heya, does anyone know how to fix the emblem on the steering wheel or where to get a replacment without buying the airbag?
