Ford_Man
Hi guys, I am just here looking for opinions, the Mrs is in the process of learning to drive so we are looking into a second car but what to do? What to do? Being a ford privilege customer we can pick up a nice little deal however we are unsure if we should buy a car for a the 1500 pound mark or get a little fiesta probably be a zetec but maybe a zetec s. What route would you go down for the first car and why? Insurance shouldn't matter either way as she is in her late twentys.
Darren Zs
Can't go wrong with the 1.0 Ecoboost zetec or zetec s, super cheap insurance as it's still class's as a 1.0 even though they are quite nippy, as a privilege customer I got my zetec s with privacy glass and 17" where for 216 a month with no deposit Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC
potter18
Am in a similar position, my sons gf is taking her test next month and she'll be after a cheap small car (assuming she passes of course) she's looking at a citroen c1 ect cheap to run and only 20 road tax , it depends on what you want and how much you want to spend
Ford_Man
Agree I've had a few of ecoboost engines over the past few years great little cars, I just can't make the decision wetter to go used or new, could buy a little run about for £1500.00 and then it cost 500 to get it through an MOT 6 months into ownership! Zico
The 1.0 Ecoboost has served me well for a first car. As Darren has said, they are cheap to insure and fast enough to get around in.
Ford_Man
This looks like it's swaying toward new this thread!
Darren Zs
Could go 1500 quid for something used but the money you end up putting into them really isn't worth it, let's be honest something will go wrong with it, always does, but with new you know you're covered with Warranty so you'll never see yourself stuck, I was in the same boat as you and went and bought a 1.4 2004 fiesta flame and all I had was bother, payed 1800 for it and by the time I sole it a year later for 1000 I had spent nearly 500 putting it right when things went wrong, if I was you I would go for a nice new ecoboost, I've drove mine for around 9 months now, literally just touched 8000 miles and I cannot fault it Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC
Philf1
What about a KA? Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC mobile app
Darren Zs
100% no haha mum drives a 1.25 fiesta 2013 at the minute and is talking about a Ka so it's cheaper as she rarely uses the car and I can't tell her no enough!! They're scrap, you can dress them up in leather and fancy coloured bits inside but, it's still a ka, and ka's are basically a fiat 500 with a ford body so they're scrap, cheaply made, and as I'm sure you know in this day and age, you get what you pay for, honestly mate I work for ford and everyone turns at the site of a ka coming into our place, even when we do Pre delivery inspections on them you really do get to see how cheap and tatty they are, I would really urge you to steer clear of a Ka :) Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC

Paramanic
Phil unfortunately with a small child a KA wouldn't be suitable I don't think What about a used fiesta I got a 13plate 1.0 EcoBoost 125ps Titanium last August only done 14k still 2yrs warranty and price was great brand new was costing £14,500 ....I got it only one year old and 14k later for £9,750! Can't deny the results and for cheaper price you can't smile more
jace1969
Why do you have to have a big gap £1500 or new. Why not go in the middle and have a second hand for around 7k.or a bit more. You aint getting a old car and still got cover and cheap to run if EcoBoost and cheaper to buy so its a win win.

Hi mate the reason that their is such a gap is because at 1500 we would just buy it no borrowing, or new as I am a privilege customer we can get a pretty good deal on monthly payments under the options scheme and then swap it in every 9 months to a year. Ford_Man
What's the privelege scheme? It's a scheme which provided a discount on new vehicles for employees, pensioners and their family's.

tfin25
if you're not bothered about actually owning the car then I would 100% go for a new one on privelige. There's some good privelige deals of fiesta zetecs at the moment, and as you said you can swap it for a new one every 9 months or so.
