Personally I wouldn't bother. You'll fail the mot agen now for not having a cat on a diesel as they have changed the rules again and being a mk4, you'll have a partical filter fitted. Unless you you remove both, I can't see cat removal making to much difference. From wot I've read, the partical filter can clog up, look up Google pics, but don't know if cat removal would increase the partical build up ??

I was hoping to leave dpf on till I had issues with it but it does make sense that it might clog I will have to look into it before I do anything as I was just trying to get my mpg up a little while making it sound a little different

New Rules for MOT Testing – UK

In February 2014 the UK government brought
out a visual inspection as part of the annual test for road vehicles.
The tester must now look for the presence of a DPF filter section in the
exhaust. As we have always just removed the insides from the DPF filter
and left the original canister in place this means that you will not
fail your MOT.

Would it not fail on emissions tho ?? If they test for particals on the emissions test ?? I don't know if they can actually test that tho ??

My neighbour had a gutted one on his car and it failed as they had some way of checking inside to make sure it was fully operational

Probably tapped it with a spanner to see if it was hollow.

If I did what many members have done and have my dpf gutted and welded back on and have a remap would I be likely to fail the mot or should it sail through? My mechanic reckons it shouldn't have a problem

I remap cars and we cut the top of the dpf and weld I pipe through so it looks like the dpf is still there and "working" that way they can't fail it on a mot
