CF11
It was - Elephant usually come up as one of the cheapest on the comparison sites, but you never know what they are going to be like until you have something like this happen, and they took a lot of the stress out of the situation - think they are part of Admiral Insurance. Shennas
Well impressed at the quick pay out! I would avoid any keyless system as these seam to be the big problem these days. The basic issues are the you can smash the drives door window without the alarm going off. Secondly the car OBD port can be used to clone a key and drive off. Therefore the solution is get a car alarm the goes off when the drive door glass is broken and protects the OBD port.
paulyinthenorth
I think the solutions posted in this thread are fairly good ones - for a Fiesta ST3 at least. Pull the fuse that powers the OBD port.. If they want access to the fuse box they would certainly trigger the infrared alarm. I think for a Fiesta that's enough. You hear of BMWs and Audis being pushed onto low-loaders and stripped for parts... But this is a FIESTA after all. There are a million and one of them around. :) Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC
mikeyd1
Stoplock pro fitted perfectly and no where near as bulky as disklock.
Swiftfocus69
Have the Big Yellow Disklock. Perfect and once in its case virtually slips under the seat or in the boot .One Big Advantage of going for the full Disklock over the `Bar ` type is it covers the whole steering wheel. If they where total B-stings they could cut your steering wheel and remove the bar type easily.

Zico
Bought the same steering lock as Lee, removed the OBD port fuse and picked up these as well: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231322900527?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D231322900527%26_rdc%3D1

Zico
The thing is pretty heavy and could quite easily be used to deter thieves in other ways :D. One other thing is that it gets a bit warm in the sun :)

Zico
No, not yet. I've not noticed it leaving a mark in the wheel.
L22EEW
No, not yet. I've not noticed it leaving a mark in the wheel. All you need is a kitchen sponge, and cut it in half. Each piece is a perfect fit for each side. You'll still get a minor indent when taking the lock off, but it soon disappears. Highly recommend! Zico
I was going to get something in but just haven't bothered to yet :) Are you fitting the lock across the wheel controls or just across the wheel? Mine is across the cruise control (vertical) and rests up against the front window and driver roof pillar.

I'm fitting mine in the t-section, usually leave it in the upright position too... just like you. Obviously that's not the case in this photo, Lol.

ninja_geezer
My disklock came with a cover for the wheel .leaves no marks at all .takes about 10 seconds to fit and remove once you have done it a few times .
Zico
If I were OCD I would be more worried by the grubby finger prints left on the steel bar than any mark on the wheel :D

Venom
Really sorry to hear about this crime ............. touching wood, I have been VERY lucky with any cars I have owned in that only once had a stereo nicked which was bad enough, I could not imagine how gutting it must be to have your pride and joy nicked. I have a ST 3 and having contacted the dealer to ask about disabling the OBD port as suggested, they advise not to ..... but they do agree getting a 'dummy' connection is a good alternative just as a further thing on this .......... now considering buying a tracker ...... anyone got any thoughts on which ones are worth it etc found this with good reviews; http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003XDN58K/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me= any thoughts??? GrahamJC
Just a quick update - I bought one of the steering wheel locks which Lee recommended and I am very pleased with it. The only downside is that spare keys are not available from the seller as they have discontinued the line. My local shop which normally cuts my keys has told me that some outlets which specialise in security are able to cut keys of the type which came with the lock. I'm glad to see that your another member who has purchased the lock. I believe you are now the known 3rd person to have purchased this lock, via my own suggestions. Are you looking to get spares keys cut then? How many keys were supplied with your lock? I had 2 keys with mine.
GrahamJC
I had two keys with my lock but I do intend to get another cut for someone else who occasionally uses my car. thanks again for your post about the lock and the advice about using sponge to protect the steering wheel.
