Looked at mk6 lastnight and to be honest it all looked good, had a slight squeak on the belt at cold,no codes on the dash hidden display, the gears when shifting seemed a little reluctant for example,in second to pull it out of second it was hard to find neutral straigt away but maybe that's just where it's a diferent car to the mk5 lowered go kart I drive lol.

Any help?

Just look at another one, plenty out there, needs an Aux belt kit changing and probably just a syncro issue, nothing majorly expensive but still given there are hundreds out there I'd walk away and find a minter.

The "hidden display" is only supposed to display codes associated with the cluster it'self. If you really want to check up on a car before you buy you need an OBDII reader

When shifting does it feel like you're trying to push through thick treacle? Also does the problem get worse when the engine gets hot? If so I might have the explanation and the solution for you as I had the same issue.
