Fenners
Hi, I'm looking at swapping my current fiesta Eco boost 1.0 to the zetec s 1.0 Eco boost this week however after putting in this reg plate with my insurance its cheaper by 6p a month to change my car this didn't sound right to me? It also has the rear parking sensors and city pack added are these counted as customisation that I would need to add to my insurance? MarksST
Insurance is a strange thing, prices vary monthly and it's not unusual for prices to be cheaper with a more powerful/expensive car, some people have mountuned their car and the premium has gone down. If it left the factory with these options fitted then it shouldn't need mentioning to your insurers.
Fenners
Thanks for the quick reply, I've never known that in insurance before! The one owner previous had the city pack fitted to the car would this count as modification?

jaklawrence
Unless it modifies the emissions, performance, braking or safety I don't think it needs mentioning as it's not a 'mod' so much as it is a convenience. Though you'd think reverse parking sensors would bring your premium down :D Despite it being turbocharged it's still only a 999c engine, which puts it in a low insurance group. If i remember correctly, they also score well in the EuroNCAP tests which is never a bad thing. http://www.euroncap.com/en/ratings-rewards/latest-safety-ratings/?selectedMake=7284&selectedMakeName=Ford&selectedModel=7356&selectedModelName=Fiesta&allProtocols=true&includeFullSafetyPackage=false&selectedProtocols=1472,5910,5931,1468,1469,1470,1471,14999&selectedClasses=1204,1196,1201,1198,1197,1180,1205,1199,1203,1179,1202&allClasses=true#&allDriverAssistanceTechnologies=false&selectedDriverAssistanceTechnologies= ...Yeah, nothing for the new 2015 zetec S but they scored 5 stars in 2012 and it's unusual for them to go 'backwards' in safety. Bob_thebaldie
As other people have said, if the options are fitted by the maufacterer, then theres no need to declare them. Word of warning tho, insurance companies will do anything to get out of paying out. so, anything you do to your car should be declared, even graphics/stickers, as these attract attention to your car, possibly making it at higher risk of theft. Years ago i had an Escort RS Turbo, i declared different Ford alloys, performance exhaust, graphics etc. My insurance went up by £25 or so on a premium of £500,so it was no biggy.
Fenners
This is a zetec s 1.0 with the city pack on and reverse parking sensors which the 1 owner paid for, I assume they were fitted as new when it was ordered?
Mordey
This link will tell you exactly what was fitted at the factory. Try to use Firefox as on Chrome it only shows Vin. Go to vehicle tab. http://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleRegSelector.do;jsessionid=6773C82F4CA1685C1DF164A70B7AB020.eccvas511
bensambrook
Some insurance companies are now asking for optional extras on the car.
Fenners
That's great thanks can't seen anything about a city pack at factory fitted, I'm really confused as to what will effect my insurance and if the city pack comes as standard or optional extra? Thanks for all your help!
Mordey
City Pack is powerfold mirrors and reverse sensors. Look on Etis for: Dual Power Fold Htd Signal Mirror's and With Reverse Proximity Sensor. Its not listed as City pack. This is whats on mine.
Well Spoken Waffle
i checked the insurance for a used fiesta st that was on the lot when i bought my new zetec. it was exactly the same. maybe if i'd know, i'd be driving about in a FiST... still, no hard feelings. the zetec is fantastic as is
Fenners
Yeh they were fitted as new when the car was built for the first and only previous owner, I've emailed my insurence to check. Thanks
Mental_Atom
They can't charge for things that were factory fitted partially because people that buy cars second hand probably don't even know half the time! It'd be stupid :P
Fenners
Haha yes very true I suppose, just want to make sure it's all correct and above board! I've got a 1.0 Eco boost now and it's 125 this one so not sure if there will be much difference?
Fenners
Checked with my insurance and as everyone stated because the manufacturer fitted it at time of purchase it's not a modification :-)
Phil 87
If it was fitted when it left the factory then no (I think). Basically if it was manufactured that way it doesn't need declaring as far as I know. I think some insurers also include anything that was fitted by the dealer before you collect the car, so that might include something like 3rd party parking sensors but I'm not sure. Yokomoko
I went from a 2013 Fiesta Titanium (100PS) to a more expensive 2015 Fiesta Zetec S (140PS) a month into my insurance. Before I got the car I inquired and it was about £50 more to insure (Changing in a month time). On the day before I picked up the car, I changed my insurance (for T+7Days) and it said it was £23.13 cheaper, weird! Might be because the car was actually registered at that point so picked up that it had rear parking sensors etc. but was a bit of a result. Was on £330 a year (Paid in full), was expecting £380 after, ended up at around £307, next year should be fun too :) My insurance starts in January and my birthday is in April, so next year (when I am 25), I might pay monthly for 3 months, cancel and then get new insurance when I am 25 if it'll save me any money. This is with a non-fault crash & compensation claim declared as well! Fortunate enough to not have any points though.
