New Car Not As Fast??

Featured Replies

Had my new car about 3 weeks now and it doesn't feel as fast as when I first got it. Maybe just physcological but it just doesn't, been using shell v power and it is a 125ps ecoboost zetec s.

You've just got used to it that's all.

That's what i was thinking, I used to feel feel like it pushed me into the seat more.

It prolly still will if you get the right mix of cog, rpm and go pedal ;)

Mine does after ~5 months.

At ~1650 in 2nd or 3rd it just seems to exponentially accelerate.

mine doesn't feel as fast as when i got it. then i look at the speedo...

to chip tune or to not chip tune? that is the question. would be cool if the car could roll a dice when you start it up so you could either have 120bhp, or 140bhp, or 90bhp, or 4bhp. it wouldn't tell you how much power it'd have, it'd just give you whatever when you start the engine

Yeah mine doesn't feel as fast anymore but then I look at the speedo and it's still pretty quick I've just become immune. I installed MP135/induction yesterday so it feels fast again now :D but I'm sure I'll get used to that too... I'll just have to do more things :P

Yes, if you start with something quicker than you're used to it becomes the new normal.

There is always the opposite route... My Fiesta has half the torque of my last car (though it has similar ultimate power/weight). Then it starts off feeling gutless and from then on there is no more downside. As consolation I have to think back to the car previous to that one.

I went from 275bhp to 125bhp. Didn't take long to adjust ;)

When i had my old car I got it remapped from 180 to 240bhp and I thought the car was gonna kill me... soon got used to it though

Perhaps the placebo of the 125BHP being powerful has worn off, they never "push you into your seat" it's not a Bugatti, sometimes think some people would make a mess of their pants if they ever got into the likes of an AMG Merc or M5.

I agree it's probably just that you've got used to it. Thinking about it I sometimes thing my ST isn't as fast as when I first got it, it does push you back into the seat even in 4th, but the number of times I've floored it in 3rd up to 60 has just made it lose the novelty it had at first. It still puts a smile on my face every time I do that though :)

Not having a turbo before, it surprises me every time I drive it. My prob is always having to watch the rpm before I change gear, too early and it's diabolical :)

Hey, I actually hit 5k rpm the other day, terrific ;)

I've never yet floored it fully, it tends to feel choked if I try it. Slightly less beans seems to produce faster acceleration.

Within the speed limit of course, Mark :D

Yea, right.
