Hi There, so i've had my fiesta for a few years now and i've built up 3 years no claim bonus and I think its time to upgrade. But i'm really struggeling on what to get a Focus ST or a Fiesta ST, i'm edging towards the fiesta but if anyone has any benifits or downsides from owning either models could you let me know with some guidence please? :)

Get a focus zetec s same engine as fiesta st with 180bhp and you get more car for your money and you can get them cheaper than a fiesta st

Focus ST is a far better car, better build, more power, far better at speed and more refined. new ones with 2.0T are similar on fuel too.

I wouldn't get a Focus with Fiesta Engine, it'll be slower and worse and fuel, no point in it, either go whole hog on either model or not at all, you'd just want the Focus ST once you notice something lacking, like Fiestas overtaking you.

I don't know about owning, as I never took it further after the test drives, I found the focus (ordinary) too big a car for me, even though outside its marginal with the fiesta, inside it feels huge, and this is from someone who previously owned a escort estate, and two mondeos

Fiesta ST I did also test drive and utterly hated it, controversial opinion maybe, but one which is mine, I found the sports bucket seats uncomfortable, I found it far too quick off the mark brake and exelerator for my driving style, and I've been driving for more years than some members have been breathing for, all in all a terrible experience - the colour was nice but that's about it (molten orange)

Test drive each before you make any kind of decision

I used to and still do like the look and idea of the ST, but no further, instead I bought a top of the range normal fiesta (TX)

I'd say the most important thing is to test drive both. Even better if you can find a dealer that has both cars, or can get one over from another dealer. A back-to-back test would be great to help you decide.

I haven't driven the Focus ST but I've heard the Fiesta is more nimble, probably just because it's lighter. For me the Focus would be too big, because the boot and back seats would be empty 99% of the time, so it's just wasted space and weight.

It would be Focus for me, but the important thing is to test drive both and see how you feel.

Take it out on some of the roads you'll be driving if you can.

I didn't personally need the raw performance of a Focus ST, but wanted a bit more car than the Fiesta ST, so I opted for the Focus Zetec S with 1.5 ecoboost (replacement to the 1.6 engine found in the Fiesta ST)

Might be a different story if there was a 3 door focus, but a 5 door 'hot hatch' just doesn't look right to me.

So I f I needed a 5 door family car I'd go for the focus, but as I don't the fiesta ST ticks all the boxes.
