portobe17o 3 Posted May 2, 2015 I have just bought a zetec 1.4 2006. It is my first diesel and while I am pleased overall, I am worried about a diesel fume smell in the cab from time to time. Is this a common problem and can it be corrected?
mintalkin 95 Posted May 2, 2015 it is common on the 1.4 for the injector seals to leak, so check for any signs of diesel around the injectors that could be causing the fumes.

jackgl 32 Posted May 4, 2015 Could be a cracked catalyst or EGR issue, do you notice it more when our stationary? Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC
portobe17o 3 Posted May 4, 2015 Notices more when stationary. Just opened the bonnet on tickover and noticed wisps of smoke coming from around the air filter box. Does that signify bad news?
jackgl 32 Posted May 4, 2015 I would say EGR most likely, Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC
tero521 16 Posted May 4, 2015 Do you have fuel heater (webasto/eber), and how cold is the weather been in there where you live? That might give nasty smell and wisps of smoke when stationary and wind blowing from just the angle.
portobe17o 3 Posted May 5, 2015 Not too cold here atmo, don't know if I have fuel heater? How do I check if the EGR is working properly?
