hillier291
Hi Guys Hoping someone on here can help. Had somebody drive in to my car today and leave a nasty dent in the door. Been looking at the option of replacing the door but not sure how easy the door is to remove and then refit on a MK3 focus. I will also potentially need to transfer the handle from the old door to the new door. Does anybody on here have any experience with this who might be able to advise me as to how difficult this will be or wether it is best leaving things like this to the garages to do. Thanks Jamie
Matthew C
Hi I think a previous owner has done it on my Mk1.5 (One side is badged LX, the other isn't). I did do it on a Renault a few years ago, keeping all the original glass, C/L and handles - I think the hardest part was lifting the door back into place afterwards, but I did scrape my fingers and knuckles fiddling around inside the panels. I'd suggest checking that your locks and handle components are all going to be loose and not seized in the door before committing to the job. Having a manual would be a big help. artscot79
On a mk3 focus given the keyless entry systems etc it wont be as easy as just changing the door far more complex than that
TomsFocus
Why would it be any harder with keyless entry? The key sensor isn't in the door itself is it? I've swapped doors on a few cars without issue, if its a complete door it's usually as simple as unplugging the wiring harness and unbolting the hinges to remove, then the opposite to refit. Lock barrels need changing though, not sure how difficult that is on the Mk3.
troy45
There is a keyless sensor in the door if the car has that system. Also if the spec of car the replacement door came off is different than the original door the door modules won't match up and that can cause problems too. Could throw up security issues too if Ford have the VIN stored in each of the modules - was a Thatcham requirement few years back but don't know if that's still the case.
