Fiesta 1.25 Fuel Enconomy

Featured Replies

hi everyone,

I've got a 14 plate 1.25 fiesta, I was wondering what the best fuel to put in would be to get the most out of the tank. I usual put the BP unleaded in just for the Nectar points and the cash back! Haha, should I try the ultimate? Is there a better place to go? I get around 43 mpg, is there a way to make it go further? Used to have a 08 1.6 focus, i could get around the same out of that with the bigger tank as i can with my fiesta with a smaller tank!

Thanks in advance

Jon

I just use regular unleaded and I get around 40 MPG I was thinking about using the BP ultimate not sure if it's worth the extra £ to be honest.I read that the premium fuels work better in performance models and no difference will be seen in smaller engines. Can't help but notice you have the exact same car as me any chance you could look at my recent post for me? would be much appreciated!

Cheers

43MPG (or 6.6Liters per 100 Kilometers) is quite normal for the current 1.25 Fiesta.

I've driven now over 5500kms with my MY13 1.25 (82BHP) and also get 43MPG overall. On the highway, the consumption goes up to 38MPG.

But for this kind of "old" engine with the short ratio 5 gear gearbox, that's ok in my view.

Higher octane fuel (e. g. Ultimate) would be no use for the engine. It neither have more power nor a better consumption.

In my old 1.6 focus I experimented with the Shell V-power for a month or so as I usually just get supermarket fuel. The difference wasn't huge in economy. Maybe an MPG or two but not enough to be conclusive. I did feel though that the engine felt smoother and more responsive. I'd even go as far as to say it felt a little faster. That said there is such a thing as the Placebo effect.

Some cars (usually cars with their ECU setup for higher octane fuel e.g. sports cars) will experience a bigger difference but I think if theres a selling point for using it in a smaller engined car it is that it keeps your engine cleaner and in better nick. But the effect that has in real terms on maintenance costs is probably negligible if you service your car regularly and properly.

In conclusion; its probably not worth it.
