Mot + Engine Management Light

Hi,

I have a 2003 Ford Focus which has had a blowing exhaust for about 5 years now as I've seen from the past advisories on the MOTs from the previous owners. Because the exhaust blows the engine management light comes on, however does this mean that it will fail the MOT? I'm not sure exactly as some people say that if the EML is on its a failure under new laws and some people are saying it doesn't matter. Just want to get it cleared up.

Thanks!

my old focus (2003 zetec ebony mk1.5) had eml as an advisory albeit that was 3 years ago - might be easier to just replace it rather than risk it

I'd replace it, but it's the flex pipe so not such an easy job. I'm hoping it will be okay to pass. Otherwise I can disconnect the battery for 20 mins and it takes a few days for the light to come back on.

I imagine that will be a swine to replace!

I swapped the back box when i had mine and the hardest part of that was getting new rubber hangars on lol

No is the answer to eml question, not mot failure.

The front pipe/flexi section is easy to replace on the mk1 1.6 focus.

I've just had a look into it, and yes it actually is. I will do it some weekend! Thanks
