Air Filter Help K&n E9289

Featured Replies

Hi all,

does anyone know if the k&n e-9289 filter fits in a 2010 focus zetec s (115). I know it does come in a kit but i'd prefer to keep the standard airbox. Ive had a look inside the airbox and it looks very similar to that of an ST.

any help is appreciated

Rob

Ive just put one in my standard box on my mk3. Didnt fancy paying £70 extra for a fancy lid with the 57s-4000 kit. The 9289 was on Amazon last week for £54 delivered. They might still have them.

K&n 57s-4000

Yeah that's what I thought, bit pricey for what it is, however I'm still not sure if it will fit in my standard air box, I believe my focus is known as a mk2.5?

If it lists the 97s-4000 for your specific car then the 9289 filter will fit as the full kit is only a lid and uses the existing box base. There are dimensions for the 9289 on the site if you want to double check.

Yes it will fit

Seen them on ebay cheap but they arenused. Get the recharge kit and its good as new

All Focus MK2/MK2.5 and MK3/MK3.5 versions with the round type air filter do have exactly the same air filter element. Only the bottom part of the airbox itself is different. This basically means that the K&N 57S-4000 kit or the K&N E-9289 filter element are compatible with all Focus MK2/MK2.5 and MK3/MK3.5 versions with the round type air filter.

Even the Mk2 Focus RS has the same factory airbox as the 1.6TDCi model,

The RS has a side snorkle that would be a nice upgrade to the other models,

If you can get your hands on a K&N57s kit snap it up,

Ive got my name down for one and been told there's currently a three week waiting list as K&N in america are working overtime to meet demand,

The same air box is fitted to some Mazda's and Volvo's aswell so this airbox lid kit is selling to a wide market,

The pound is very strong on the euro at present,

So it may benefit to purchase the kit from Germany rather than within the uk because at present 62pence = 1 euro

My Green Cotton Performance Induction Filter has now reached the end of its life,

Rather than immediately purchase i replacement from Green, i studied the market to see if anything better had been developed.

So to recap in terms of evolution across the past five years,

Started off here:

Moved on to Green Cotton Performance:

Image2403.jpg

Now moved on to the K&N E-9289 filter.

IMG_20150801_110353_zps6xpm820j.jpg

My findings were that K&N have manufactured a kit called the 57s-4000

I've purchased mine from ProdigyMotorSport

This kit from K&N consists of a K&N E-9289 cylinder filter same diameter as stock filter but it has more pleates than standard making it larger in terms of induction space within the same area.

The filter also boasts a large side induction section which is a mushroom filter inset to the top of the cylinder drawing in cold air from behind the headlight.

Here is a picture taken inside the K&N E-9289 filter you can clearly see the inverted mushroom at the top of the filter.

Compared to the standard performance filter which is just a blank end:

And here the stock filter:

Image2382.jpg

The side induction filter is in my opinion definitely the way forward; the design is simple and ingenious guaranteed cold air induction incorporated in to the stock enclosure.

The K&N57s kit also comes with a replacement air box lid its raised higher inside compared to the stock lid aswell as being a polished smooth surface:

IMG_20150801_110457_zpsr8cexaqq_edit_143

The kit guarantees an increase in horsepower:

SciFiFantasyHorse_PowerhorsepowerjpgrZd3

K&N have even supplied two +5bhp stickers to ensure an increase in performance is felt.

In competition now:

Green now also manufacture a filter with side induction:

The green filter with side induction doesn't come supplied with a larger induction lid or side cap its just the filter itself.

Link: http://www.fswerks.com/products/green-filter-high-performance-cone-air-filter-ford-focus-escape-2012-2013

K&N also provide the filter with side induction as a stand alone item without a larger lid or side cap if desired:

I have to say;

I've closely examined the build quality of the K&N filter and i cant see any excessive glue on the surface of the filter or any imperfections due to "mass production" as claimed by Green in the first page of this guide.

Having the K&N57s kit now fitted;

IMG_20150801_112016_zpsyyjkiwp5.jpg

The exhaust tone has a bit more grunt to it,

The induction sounds great especially at around 3,000rpm in 3rd Gear onwards.

The performance is increased aswell I've not driven it myself but the wife says it feels like the increase from blanking the EGR valve.

In terms of MPG i was already getting 70MPG so it can only get better.

Overall my advise would be;

The Green Cotton Induction Filter linked and fitted on page 01

Is a great filter provides increased MPG, performance and is still the best filter on the market for under 100 pounds.

However if your willing to spend over 100 pounds on your induction system then the K&N57s-4000

Is the best on the Market today.

Well ordered just the filter for £54 off amazon. Gonna have a look at other mods for the airbox maybe the ST one. As im just wondering if there are any mods for the airbox. On my MK1 a simple mod to do was get the Automatic Intake with the ST170 snorkal as this took more air to the enclosed airbox.

but will let you know the results on my 1.5 150bhp.

Hi I have a focus mk3 1.0 ecoboost I have the basic K&N.I have a racechip removable re map ready to go. But was wondering if there is any mods I can do to the actual intake to the box. I’ve had an Astra previously and you could swap the standard 1.6 intake for a Sri intake the size in diameter was drastic
