Injectors (fuel I Think )

Hi Lads,

Today I broke down on way back from malvern the car was jumping about like a kangeroo, then suddenly just stopped, i called the AA out it seems i have to press on a few times to get the fuel to make it go faster.

The aa man said it was the injectors he said could be one or more and I just wondered how much do you think it would cost the car is a ford fusion Diesel 2007 1.4 TDI it's been a great car not many miles on it

I had an injector replaced on my 2004 Fusion 1.4 TDCi 2-3 months ago, and the injector itself, new, was about £170

Edit: For some reason it's injec no. 3 that goes first, so I've heard(?)

For getting back to me my car was an ex mobility car I got it when it was 3yrs old I have had it now 5yrs and it is a great car I guess things happen, ta for the heads up I will be taking it into the garage tomorrow so they can check it out.

Ha mine was ex-mobility as well :)

The injectors are a common problem with this engine; sometimes it's just the copper washer at the base of the injector that needs replacing (the ones used by Ford are thinner than the ones Peugeot use apparently), worse, the whole injector itself. Other possible symptoms are rough idling due to loss of compression and a pfft-pfft noise when the engine is running as combustion products are leaking out of the top of the engine.

But that's not to say that's what's happening with yours; always best to get an expert to check it out :)

I have to take my car to the Diesel fuel injection garage in reading tomorrow this is the only local centre we have to Basingstoke. I hope they will sort it.

Hi Jamie,

took car in the man had a look couldn't find the fault as it had cancelled itself out, he said it could go on for another 40 miles or even 6mths then happen again, he said he could keep it i and dismantle it to get to the injectors then test them and replace if needed the AA man had written the fault down it was p1201 injector open/short, would you say this is what needs replacing.

Would you or any of the other lads say the system errors are usually correct or could it be a system prob? just wondering I a sure i will get the injector done as don't want it breaking down again.

I had the man phone back do you think this is expensive they took the injectors out and said for 4 injectors and labour it would cost£1422.48 recon ones plus all the seals siemens parts.

if all the aa came up with was p1201 pcm only then its a fault with 1 injector only , injector 1 is 1201pcm , all 4 injectors wont fail at the same time unless there is a fuel quality issue from the tank.

Thank you Ian i will mention this to them tomorrow unless there was as sometimes i could smell diesel and it seemed have to pump the accelerator to get it going like it felt sometimes there was no fuel getting through. I will ask to be o safe side i wondered if all would fail together.

Morning everyone,

My car has been i a diesel specialist garage for just over a week now, they re-conditioned the injectors, replaced them to find still the number 1 injector fault still showing the same. I was told all injectors had failed I was told the car would be ready to find they had sent the injectors away and they had come back but two were short so had to re order them. I got phone call t say car was ready Yesterday.

We made the trip to get it spent nearly a whole day to get a phone call 20 mins before picking it up to say it had failed again on no1 injector so they said they have to re order this one again?

Just out of interest does anyone think it could be sumit else like a relay or fuse or the car computer?

at the moment the cost i £1444.28 a lot of money wondering if the car is really worth it only keeping it as It only had 52,000 on the clock had it 5yrs now.

I think i had less problems with my petrol car.

hi everyone the man brought my car back he drove it back from reading all great he parked it when he left i couldnt start it up again i tried loads times, the man came back he cant start it up, not showing anything on the diagnostic machine he said try it in 20mins if still not starting i have to phone him, any help on what it could be he is a diesel specialist

When you say not starting, I assume it cranks over with the starter motor but doesn't fire up?

Does your engine have one of these? (circled)

It started this morning but i have lost confidence in it, I am going to try it on the motorway this morning see how it goes. This is the pic of my car engine the specialist said it was a peugeot engine and said they horrible to do anything on. He brought the car back yesterday drove it back ok. Do you think the prob could have fixed itself then could happen again?

When you say not starting, I assume it cranks over with the starter motor but doesn't fire up?

A hand priming pump.. for the lucky diesel owners, haha

It seemed to start up the next day don't know why it wouldn't start. i have been to winchester and then bognor and back seems ok touch wood drives ok, so hoping it is all fixed now.

Yep quite useful :P I was thinking that the system might not have been primed fully after they had disturbed the fuel lines and there was air in there
