Tomorrows the big day

I'm doing the 200 mile drive first thing in the morning in my 11 year old focus (scrappage) all the way up to cheserfield to collect my new Fiesta zetec.

As I have NEVER bought a brand new car before, does anyone have any tips / advice?

What should I look out for on the check?

How many miles on the clock is 'unacceptable' (Bit paranoid that some poxy little salesman has been driving it home everynight, it's been there for 3 weeks)

etc...

Cheers

First piece of advice; don't enter that town into your satnav. You'll never get there! ;)

Hi

You are lucky that you could keep your old car.

I had to give my old Escort up a week before I picked up my new Fiesta, and had to borrow my daughter's car.

The dealer said that they must have a scrappage certificate before the deal is done.

I checked all the body work and interior trim, the mudflaps were on, and the spare wheel and jack were all there.

I had 16 miles on the clock.

Have a great day, it is a fantastic feeling !

(Although the worrying then starts on where to park it in car parks. I tend to park it a long way off from where you want to go just to get a clear area.)

Bashy, out of interest, when did you place your order? I presume you ordered this through dealdrivers & are picking up from GK Ford in Chesterfield? I ordered my Zetec S on 23rd May with scrappage & the dealer tells me they are expecting delivery to them on 19th Sept. Nearly 4 months :o From reading many other people's posts I see that long waiting times are the norm. Although I do see that people who ordered after me have already received theirs :(

I am sure though that the long wait will be worth it :D

Hi Andy,

Yes, ordered mine through dealdrivers from GK. Placed order on 18th June. But as the car is going to be for me as a driving instructor, the only extra was squeeze paint and spare wheel. This may be a facto how I got mine so quick.

Thanks everyone for you advice.

Will post a photo tomoz. OOHHHHHH EXCITED!!!

I ordered mine through dealdrivers too, but at the end of July, i was first told that they should receive it on the 12 September, but apparently it mist the boat, so they will be getting it on the 19th September.

Bashy, delay picking it up and we can all have a meet at GK after the 19th, I'm sure you can wait

Oh and mine has a lot of extras.

Anyway, good luck today, you'll probably be on your way as i type.

Yes Chris, wa actually there at 9.30. left at 4.45am!!!

Tony Clarke sounds like he has a lot of work.

Really loved the drive back. What a nice drive. First Diesel too.

One thing that did shock me, the diesel cap...it's just a flap you push in, it opens and there is NO cap at all. No locking device on the filling part. I questioned this and Tony said they'll all like it...on way valve...no one syphons anymore...blah blah blah. Is this true??

Also, got two !Removed! stone chips on the way home...on the boot!!!!!

Have christened the fezza Fergal...the wife hates it ;-)

Glad to hear you're happy with the car, getting a diesel myself. Bummer about the stone chips though :(

Did you get the dealer to prep the paintwork for you? If so what condition was it in, any noticeable swirl marks etc?

I'm considering asking them not to do it as I have heard some bad stories on here & on detailingworld about the state of the paintwork after they have 'cleaned' it.

Thanks, Andy.
