Aftermarket Drl Fitting - Help Required

Hi Guys,

I have just bought a set of DRL for my Focus Mk3 2014. Unfortunately they are from China and came with no fitting instructions. I am a bit of an electrical novice. I understand that the black wire goes to battery negative and the red wire goes to a switched positive. Does anyone know which wire (colour or number) I should connect the white wire to so that when the headlights are on the DRL reduce to 50%.

Thanks

Black = Ground. This wire is usually connected to a ground bolt on the chassis.

Red = Switched Power. This wire should be connected (using a fuse tap) to fuse number 42 of the engine bay fuse box

White wire = Signal wire to switch the DRL off when the low beam is on.

Blue wire = Signal wire to dim the DRL 50 % when the low beam is on.

One of the signal wires must be connected to pin 12 of the headlight connector. Many cheap Chinese DRL controller modules do only have a white wire to switch the DRL when the low beam is on. More advanced DRL controller modules do also have a blue wire to dim the DRL 50 % when the low beam is on.

In my opinion the wiring of the DRL controller module was a little (too) short. Because of this I decided to disassemble the wiring harness of the DRL controller module and install longer wires where needed. This way I was able to integrate the DRL wiring into the existing wiring loom as much as possible.

Below a few pictures of the DRL kit installed to my car:

Red wire (Switched Power) connected to fuse 42 using a fuse tap. A suitible ground bolt is located on the chassis below the air filter housing.

I did also buy the DRL kit from a Chinese seller. However the quality of my DRL kit is very high. The fitment is perfect and the materials used to produce the lights are very good.

Hi,

Mission accomplished! Thanks to the invaluable help from JW1982. I did not have a fuse in the F42 position but there was an incoming feed there to connect to. Extremely pleased with the end result.

Thank you

Right so I got some drls and the instructions state this:

Black = Earth

Red = Postive Pole (battery?)

Yellow = ACC fuse

White = Control wire

This seems to be a bit different than what people are montioning here.

Do these instructions sound right or should the red and yellow be switched?

Thanks in advance.
