Easy question: At what miles do you get a hole in the side of the drivers seat where it rubs when you get in and out? Mine has a hole in it but with joke miles on the clock(very low), so I'm looking for a rough indication of how many miles it's done.

Bit of a silly question, but ill give you some answers.

scenario 1 - Car has 5 miles on the clock , someone goes to get out of the car, they have a small screwdriver in their back pocket...hole in fabric, so your car has got 5 miles on the clock.

scenario 2 - car has 413 miles on the clock, someone spils oil all over the seat and decided to replace the seat with a second hand one because its cheaper than buying a new seat, so your car has 413 miles on the clock.

scenario 3 - can you see where i am going with this ???

Also you ask the question how many miles has your car done, but you say that it has got very low mileage on the clock.

not sure why i have just spent 5 mins of my time on this question

not sure why i just spent 30 secs typing that i am not sure why i spent 5 mins of my time on this question.

if i stop tryping now i wont waste anymore of my time, so why am i still typing ?? answers on a postcard please.

There is a clue in the word "rub", it has been rubbed not cut, poked or otherwise.

I was expecting some owners of high mileage Escorts to say at what miles there seats started to develop holes.

Hmmm replaces a seat with one with a hole in it, instead of valeting, covering it or buying one without a hole in it.

"if i stop tryping now i wont waste anymore of my time, so why am i still typing ?? answers on a postcard please." I sure a lot of readers could answer that but wouldn't waist their time sending you a post card.

You kind of missed the sacrcasm in my answers, but then why am i surprised, maybe i missunderstood your question.

You have stated in your question that your car has a hole in the seat, has low mileage, and you then ask at what mileage do seats develop holes ??

Scenario 1 - my car has 50,000 miles, i weigh 15 stone, on average i get in and out of my car every 10 miles over the course of the 50,000 miles, as most of my journeys are school runs and shopping trips.

Scenario 2 - my car has 50,000 miles, i weigh 8 stone, on average i get in and out of my car every 100 miles over the course of the 50,000 miles, as most of my journeys are driving to and from work in london.

in scenario 1 i am mostly wearing jeans, in scenario 2 i am mostly wearing suit trousers.

Are you sort of seeing the point i am trying to make ?? holes in seats depend on 100's of different scenarios and could only really be measured if everyone weighed the same, got in and out of cars the same amount of times, wore the same clothes, entered and exited the car in the same manner, and all the seats were made from the same batch of material + other factors.

I didnt mean any offence , but you know the old saying, ask a stupid question get a stupid answer.

Well here is the question simplified for you:

At what miles did your(meaning anyone and everyone) seat develop holes. If I get some answers I can do the intelligent thing and take a mean average. Of course I don't need to state that I'm talking about "normal" and wear and tear holes and not damaged by what ever tool, or whatever that people left in their back pockets? Or maybe I do?

Why is it that some people feel the need to try and make something of nothing or "try" and make themselves look clever by trying to put others down or is that a "stupid" question?

well i hope you get the answers your looking for, and like i said , i didnt mean any offence.

Ive got 120,000 miles on my clock and i have no holes, my last car i had 117,000 on the clock and again no holes, hope that helps you .

If you already have holes in your seat and low mileage car then its a pretty good guess its either not the true mileage, or something has caught it creating a tiny hole which would then accelerate the "rubbing effect" you seem sure has caused the problem.

Good luck

I have 66000 miles on my clock to date. When i first got it there was a small hole in the drivers seat but now its bigger just from me getting in and out. I would agree that theres been a tiny hole and it has got bigger from getting in and out of the car.

Mine has 86k and a whole in the leather (mine has full leather) but i picked it up on 79k and it was there already. Not sure if leather or cloth has a difference wear n tear wise but you never know

My cabby had 60 k on the clock when I had her, it has recaros in it and the seat had started to split when I had it. I am only slight and even I rubbed up against it getting in and out. I suppose it depends on what seats are in it, where abouts you sit ETC. Hope this helps

Thanks for all the answers. My car is 14 years old and has 113000 klm on the clock (70k+ miles) and the drivers seat has a hole on each side. The passengers seat is wearing in the same place but hasn't developed into a hole yet. I was told the Klm were genuine when I bought the car but I just ignored that  . The one thing I have notice is that the PVC/Leather around the gear stick is in very good condition and the steering wheel only has slight signs of wear, but the gear stick material could be new and the wheel may have had a cover. I would prefer that any car showed the correct miles so I have some idea as to what to replace next especially as with some cars, "X" fails at around "X" miles so keep an eye on it. With some cars high miles isn't a problem especially if it's been looked after.

I keep meaning to post pictures of the holes but never seem to get round to taking them, maybe tomorrow.

if you are that bothered about it why did you buy the car in the first place or if its the holes that are really bothering you get some new seats or seat covers

The seal around the door gap on my focus split due to rubbing getting in and out in the garage. I'd suggest you try what I have found to work. Make sure your fat !Removed! (no insult mines probably fatter!!!) dont rub on it as you get out the car.
