I filled up again last night, worst case scenario with the current setup not worrying about fuel saving came to 60mpg (showing 67mpg on the trip computer so 10% out or there abouts).

Completely missed this - that looks awesome! usually don't like plastic engine covers but that really does smarten up the engine bay - not sure how it would work without a stock airbox but I am tempted to look into getting something like this!

Quick MPG update, the average MPG calculator usually sits at around 65mpg now, this is still commuting on the motorway with a mix of 60-70mph, was running slightly low on fuel today so drove at around 56mph to nurse the car back (forgot to fill up yesterday), anyway today the average MPG increased to 67.5 in just 70 miles.

After I filled up the car has done 61.9mpg with most of the tank with me driving at 70mph, still not as good as my previous car but ok I guess.

Hi again! I've been kinda busy with moving, im now at 2km (1.25miles) from work, before was 25km (~16miles), and some other stuff.
What you can do is get a engine cover from a Citroen C3 HDI just like mine, glue or use plastic soldering with some stapples on the airbox top cover, just to hide the cone filter. Maybe you'll have to get another fixing point so the cover doesn't rattle. Dunno if restricts the airflow tho...

MOT is coming up and i have some stuff to do, buy 2 tires (Bridgestone Potenza RE002 195/50 R15)

Im not so happy with the car atm. At the 1500 to 2000 rpms on a uphill, or slowly commuting he car shudders a lot. Even more so if the engine is cold...
Checked the errors with the ODBII adapter and im getting a error: P0406 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor A Circuit High.

Did the remap not fully removed the EGR from the ECU?!

I'm gonna check with a remapper later today to see if the car is still aware of the EGR. Other possibilities are: injector seals, Diesel Pump or Diesel filter clogged (with 15k Miles?!)

BTW removing the doser valve will make the car light up the engine light?

Just need to remove this round place on the throttle body right?

I sometimes get the EGR circuit fault but I have a blanking plate added running on the standard map, the only thing that lights the engine check light is the higher airflow through the MAF.

I don't think I can run the cover as the bend in the pipework is just before the fuel filter, its a 3" pipe so there isn't much room between the engine and the bonnet.

That is correct, I have removed the butterfly plate from the centre but simply unplugging it will also work (as the part should be open if not in use).

I doubt the fuel filter is clogged if its only done 15k miles, I would however check the fuel lines don't have bubbles in them due to an air leak somewhere - might be the cause of any rough running.

Well the perfect solution would be placing the cone filter inside the filter airbox. Just like the ones in the mk7, and leave it without the snorkel. But the 3'' pipe probably wont fit too.

Gotta purge the car with Liqui Molly, but maybe i wont be able to do it myself, since its more complicated in a common rail (high pressure line and another low pressure i think). I'm trying to find a tutorial or a video. Since I know zero about engines maybe ill get a can or two and pour it on the deposit when the car gets low on diesel...

That would be the idea route but you would need to go from the 35mm size on the turbo to 60mm for the MAF, I have tried to find some off the shelf adaptors but I can't find anything with that sort of drop in size, plus I would need an oil catch can etc.

There are only low pressure lines going to the pump - you basically just need to put the feed and return lines into the diesel purge can and run the engine - will look to do it again soon and I will take photos for you.

Well i think its something like this:

ULhBxJi.png

But i have a few questions:

  • The hose is 8mm, right?
  • On the connector "Fuel Filter to Pump" the line has a female quick connector, i need to get a male one and attach to the hose, right?
  • When i first connect it, the hoses will have air untill the pump starts to pull the purge, wont it make the car stall?!
  • Do i need to close the circuit and attach a hose between the filter to tank return line?

I have just done an injector clean again, will get some photos up, the 2 lines you need to put into the diesel purge is the female fitting on the very front of the fuel filter and the green male fitting which I believe connects into the return line. You don't need to block of any other lines, got mine all connected up within about 5 minutes, the bolts on top of the metal filter shield are 7mm I believe (unless mine are rounded 8mm!).

You might also need to prime the lines after reconnecting but I think mine primed in around 10 pumps - will post up photos when I can.

Car is currently returning around 71mpg indicated on the trip counter, so around 64mpg taking off the error - this is inline with the manufacturers spec for ultra urban and is pretty good considering its now cold outside and the garages would have switched to the winter blend of diesel.

Long time since I have updated this tread, the car is currently on 137k miles, have fitted new springs and dampers all round, car is still good although I think 1 of the injectors have started to fail so I have a replacement and will look to fit that this weekend - will check the fuel feed connections first though as its only at higher RPMs under load so might be a fuel flow issue.

64Mpg what :O Mine at best does 58Mpg? Could this be that your using a cone filter and I am still using the normal panel filter even tho mine is a performance green filter?

Wow, i took removed the plate from my dosser valve and the car is so much more responsive!

Yeah I found that this made the most noticeable improvement in performance, its due to the butterfly valve not really sitting flat in the intake when open so a fair restriction to the airflow - you might get a check engine light for a P0103 for high airflow through the MAF, worth getting a cheap OBD2 scanner if you haven't already to reset any codes.

My engine has just ticked over 144k miles without issue - still running well but might look to do a leak off test on the injectors soon.

Just saw your older messages. I have the 1.6 tdci engine. With the EGR have you cleaned it before blanking it? Once I got the engine light come on saying about a high circuit from the EGR. Used a diagnostic tool to delete it and has never come back. Last month I got the injectors reconditioned and cleaned out and blanked the EGR. Have not got any engine light come on since. I think that high circuit EGR fault comes up when the motor isn't able to move the flap. Used brake cleaner on it and the flap could then move with just finger pressure.

I have the EML on all the time as I have Blanked the EGR and I have a big k&n cone filter fitted, but I am currently replacing the cylinder head as my old one had a split when injector 1 sat and it kept blowing the seals, so I got a reconditioned one and I'm hoping it will make the car fell even better and get more MPG!

You can check out HDI tuning. They specialise in tuning just the HDI engines so the fiesta mk6 its the 1.4 and 1.6 diesel engines. They can map out the EGR if the engine light stays on when it's blanked

Thank you, well some bad news my bottom end had gone, once the new head was on it started beautifully but coolant was leaking from the head and the water was in the oil and of course it hydrolocked before we knew it was really happening, well hopefully getting a new car tomorrow, 55 plate 3 door fiesta style 1.4 tdci :)

Sorry to hear that man. Hopefully the new car is better and has been properly maintained 👍. Could just get it mapped by the company I mentioned. They map the power to 90hp on the 1.4 so the same power as the 1.6

Well got a new car, not the one I told you about as the delaer was dodgy and the car was terrible, it had mold inside, anyway i have a 06 plate 1.4 tdci 5 door style now, it runs well but it has done 136k miles, I am a new driver (passed in september and im 21) and my insrunce company told me if I did not get a new car on the policy by tomorrow they would cut my policy so got this car, im not doing much to it, I have a k&n panel filter and I have put some wynns extreme diesel cleaner in and like my last car only run it on Shell diesel ultimate and then took her for a blast and that has seemed to clear her up alot :)

That sort of mileage isn't bad for a diesel and 5 door is better than 3 door 👍. My car has 118k miles and that runs nice. Well I got the injectors reconditioned a few months after getting the car as it would run lumpy when started after being left for over 2 hours which was a sign of a leaking injector. However even when it had a faulty injector it ran alright. I'm planning I might get it remapped to 120hp and 275nm from that company.

I didn't know you could get them reconditioned o.O and I really want to get mine remapped but my insurance won't allow any mods even tho I am keeping my k&n panel filter on :P and if I took a policy out with a remap it goes to £5k-£7k -_-

Woah yeah that would be a lot. Hopefully in about 3 years your insurance will be a lot cheaper then. I don't know if insurers greatly reduce insurance for people driving after 3 years as your out of the 'inexperienced' category.

Sorry i have not replied in a long time my bad :/ and yes for the first 2 years you are classed as a new driver and the third year my premium will drop, anywway still done a few things since I last posted here, I only run the car on bp ulimate diesel now, it feels so much smoother then it did on Shell, I took the intake manifold/rocker cover off my old car and cleaned it with mr muscle oven cleaner untill it was spotless inside and swapped it over onto my new car and I cannot tell you how much better it feels, no more flat spots and I can feel the torque now :D also moddifed the airbox to be less restrictive and I have changed one of the air intake pipes going to the airbox for a much bigger one and have got a green cotton panel filter again and it flows so much more air than a k&n one and I am currently running some millers ecomax through the system and it's made a decent difference to, also changed the leak off pipes and cleaned the top of the cylinder head and around the injectors and finally changed the coolent and the car feels amazing so much more usable power and torque. I am after an intercooler now because it really needs one, clearly ford where high and decided not to fit one to the 1.4's meh :(

So fianlly got around to do a diesel purge and it did help a bit but because I only use ultimate diesel and run Millers Ecomax through it, the injectors where really clean, there was hardly any dirt on the little filter used on the purge loop after using a whole 500ml bottle of Liqui Moly Diesel Purge, I will say that someone who runs there car on normal or **** I mean supermarket fuel will make a HUGE difference but for the extra £5ish more every full tank I would rather just use ultimate diesel, BP to be exact as it has more cetane in it which gives the car a little boost and the addatives clean and prevent dirt buildup so you never have to run addatives or do a diesel purge but that's just my thoughts. Also got my Timing belt, Water pump and aux belt done, there was service history with the car but there was nothing to do with it having new belts and as the car was on 140k miles I thought it was time to get it done, and I can notice a little difference in how responsive the engine is now which is great :)

It's good you got those things done. You don't have to worry about those things going wrong for the time you have the car. I was looking at diesel purge for my car however when talking to the mapping place I might use they said these solvents aren't good for the engine so not to use it

Yeah it's peace of mind :) and that's load of crap, it's been designed for diesel engines and the injectors and the number of people that have done it and their cars are fine proves that but it's up to you but I would highly suggest it!

Yeah lol I was still thinking about it as my dad bought a bottle for his car however I got my injectors reconditioned so a diesel purge may not be needed as they are already clean. The previous owner of my car said its had a terraclean however he lied about other stuff being done on the car so won't believe him. I checked my timing belt and it looks okay but I'm planning on changing the auxiliary belt as that looks a little fraid.
