Ford.fusion2002 Posted December 30, 2015 Share Posted December 30, 2015 I have a slipping clutch on my fusion 2002 that needs the clutch replacing. I'm sure just like most clutches it's more awkward than hard to do. The only thing I'm not sure of is the hydraulic clutch. I've only ever changed cable clutch gearboxes. Hydraulic clutch has two hydraulic cylinders (master & slave), one on the clutch pedal and one in the bell housing which you change when you replace the clutch. What do I do with the clutch fluid? Will I need to changed the fluid? The fusion is 'basically' the same as the Fiesta, you'd need to bleed the system. You only replace the cylinder in the bellhouse. stef123 Posted December 31, 2015 Share Posted December 31, 2015 If you have experience of doing cable operated clutches you'll be fine. Don't touch the master cylinder (fitted to the pedal) but you will have to unbolt the slave from the gearbox once the box is removed. It's a concentric slave cylinder so it is fitted around the gearbox first motion shaft. There is one hydraulic line goes into it, remove this and let the fluid drain into a suitable container. I usually let it drain for a few mins then try and put a finger from a latex glove and tape the end up to keep dirt out. As the clutch fluid is shared with the brake fluid you will have to top this up and bleed the system. Don't be alarmed though as the clutch draws fluid from higher up in the reservoir than the brakes so you won't effect the brakes or need to bleed them. stef123 Posted December 31, 2015 Share Posted December 31, 2015 If it's an ib5 box then the shafts are held in with a circlip type arrangement, prying them out is usually the way. Although I find it's easier to pull the driver side shaft first then use a well placed drift right through the box and hit the passenger shaft out.
