Ford Fiesta Mk6 Ignition Fault, Couldnt Start Engine

Hi everyone
I have a MK6 Fiesta 57 plate.
Few days ago, I realised a problem with my car ignition which prevent the car to turn electricity on and start the engine. When I turn the key ignition from I to II in order to turn the electricity on, nothing happened, however when I use my finger to turn the key just a little bit more toward number III position and keep my hand hold on the key, the electricity was on, but as soon as I take my hand off, the electricity turn off. Since then I couldn start the car engine on as the engine switch off by itself right after I take my hand off the key.
I did try to replace the car battery and also ignition cylinder but couldnt solve the problem.
Can anyone please give my some advice as I brought it to local garage and they couldnt help. (accept making me replace the battery and ignition cylinder which didnt work).

I'd say the ignition barrel is at fault personally. You cannot hear it "latch" as it does what its supposed to do

I already tried to replace the ignition barrel but still doesnt work (picture). Probably the problem is somewhere further then that

Is there a switch that attaches onto the end of the ignition barrel?

This is what the end of the barrel that i replaced look like.

The end part of the ignition will connect to the switch inside the key hole when insert it in. I currently cant figure it out how to remove and replace these switch

I'd say the switch is at fault. Send Ian T a message. He may be able to provide you with in depth instructions

However the switch still making sound whenever turning the key from 0 to 1 & 2, it just the electric does not turn on when key in number 2 position

The key mechanism will click due to the steering lock and internal workings but I reckon the switch is dead

I've just had mine fixed. He changed the ignition switch which has solved it. I used to turn the key and the red light flashes quickly and would not turn over. It works fine now. Cost £80 to fix.

Mine is starting to do the same I have taken out the ignition barrel switch and need to get a new one, at first I thought it was the immobiliser as I put a new battery in and that seems to be the problem but now I’m having the same problems as when I let go of the key it turns off and none of the dials will move hope this will work

Thought I'd post my recent experience on this subject in case it helps anyone. I am a bit of a DIYer, certainly not a mechanic. The car is a Fiesta Cdti 1.4 2007/8. Some months ago car wouldn't start-the red glow plug ready light kept flashing. Turned ignition off, opened the bonnet , jiggled the positive battery terminal & it started as normal. Kept doing this when necessary (it only happened occasionally) then coated battery terminals with Vaseline in case damp was getting in. Worked over the summer but in October problem resumed. Eventually this trick failed, there were no instument panel lights on the 3rd switch position although these did illuminate on position 4 but the starter wouldn't kick. Forscan interogation showed up an ignition/accessory circuit fault (B1359-70) and immobilizer module PCM communication fault (P1602-60). I started by checking the ignition circuit from the positive battery terminal-engine fusebox, starter connections, starter relay & ended up with the ignition switch- the plastic fitting located behind the key barrel on the steering column. Bought one for £8.00 on internet, fitted & it worked. It's a bit fiddely to fit but anyone should be able to do it with instuctions from a Haynes manual -3 Torx screws on bottom steering column shroud and a few retaining tabs to depress. No need to take out the barrel. Sorry to be so long winded -hope this is useful for somebody.

Seems like I’ve had the same issue you had with your fiesta, I ordered a ignition kit which had the barrel and switch in but I thought my issue was only the barrel as that was super loose so I replaced that but the issue still persists… do you have photos you could DM me of the Haynes manual (which I don't own and don't really want to spend £30 from some random person on eBay for a copy for viewing one or two pages) for the switch replacement that you could send to me? As I guess I’m going to have to replace that part too.

I'd highly recommend getting one. One of the single most useful things you can buy if you are going to be doing any work on your car. No need for buying from 'random people on eBay' (whatever that implies!) either - it is only £20 on Amazon.

Hi, I bought a 2nd hand copy from an Amazon-based used book seller,  cost about £8 posted. 

btw, tried to pm a pic of a circuit diag to someone but found that you have to be a paid-up member to upload pics. (apparently)
