Abs Problem Mk6 1.6 Tdci

Hi I'm having a bit of an issue with my 56 plate mk6 Fiesta 1.6 tdci ZS.

Car was sitting for a week without moving. Got in yesterday and started it up and went to pull out if drive but rear breaks had binded. Rocked car back and forward till they freed off.

I drove for couple of miles then ABS light came on. Stopped and done some shopping then went back to car and ABS light went off. Drove another few miles when ABS light came on with red handbrake light. Got home and left car overnight.

Went to work this morning to find ABS light EML and red handbrake light all illuminated and now I have no speedo and mileage not increasing.

I used self test mode and found

DTC 1 : C121

Quick net search reveals lots about ABS module failure.

Would one of the ABS sensors failing cause above symptoms as I'm think I may have damaged one whilst the rear brakes were binded on.

If it is ABS module failure can I buy a used part and simply swap over or does it need to be coded on the mk6.5 Fiesta.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

The ABS sensors are non contact parts I believe. Ie, there's a ring & sensor.

The red handbrake light can come on when you're low on brake fluid. Have you checked your fluid?

The more I'm reading elsehwere the more I'm inclined to think the problem lies with the ABS module.

I'd imagine if it was just a broken sensor it would still get a reading from the other 3 wheels. And know the car was indeed travelling.

The known problem with ABS module is due to water ingress. During the deluge of rain last week I drove through a fair bit of standing water. Which can only assume has found its way into the module.

I'm going to remove the electrical part of the module and inspect it and its wiring.

I will see if I can find a second hand replacement as I believe it does not require to be coded in.

It would be astronomical from ford for a replacement

Bought a wee Elm327 bluetooth reader and got following codes

U0121 lost communication with ABS module.

P1934 vehicle speed sensor

P0500 vehicle speed sensor A.

Looks like ABS module or wiring.

Going to take to local specialist and see how I get on.

Well ended up removing ABS module. No obvious wiring issues.

Fired it off to BBA- Reman for £185. They found fault in module and repaired it.

It's arriving back with me tomorrow. Il put it back in and fingers crossed that's my issue solved.

Anyone bled a mk6 brakes after reinstalling an ABS pump. Do you think I can do it without the aid of ford IDS to cycle the ABS pump?

Today i fitted my repaired ABS pump and module. All working again. Speedo now working and no warning lights etc. No error codes found either now.

Must say I'm really impressed with the service from BBA-Reman. as well as repairing the module they fitted a brand new pump. All in 5 days turnaround. £185 Inc shipping to and from. Was my original module so need for coding ect.

As for the bleeding the brakes I've just bled as normal using a one man bleed kit. Used 1.25lts of brake fluid to ensure I got as much air out as I could. The brake fluid was almost black that came out so I think it could have been doing with a purge.

Could have been a lot more expensive had I went to ford for replacement. Estimated £1000

Hi Gary,

My ABS warning light and the handbrake warning light are both appearing at the same time on my dash board in my Fiesta Zetec 1.25 (56 plate). The lights very occasionally go off but they are on permanently the majority of the time. Any idea what could be causing the problem? I've checked the brake fluid and that appears to be okay. Also took it to Kwik Fit today and after plugging it in the diagnostics machine they managed to turn the warning lights off. However after getting back in my car the warning lights re-appeared again. So they said they will let the specialist have a look at it when he's back at work later this week although the guy said it could prove to be quite an expensive job. I know this could be the case as Ford quoted me £800 to replace the ABS module!

Also my MOT is due to expire at the end of February so I really need a solution quickly otherwise my Fiesta will fail the MOT as things stand.

Any advice would be appreciated. P.s. I live in Edinburgh so not too far from where you are.

Cheers

Neil

Yes although I've no idea how I would go about removing the ABS module? Sending it to BBA-Reman does sound like a good idea if they can fix the existing module.

Not sure why Gary needed to bleed his brakes, would I need to do something similar to fix the problem as well as get my existing ABS module repaired?

Thanks

If you remove your ABS module, you'll need to bleed your brakes. it's also a good idea to do so every 2-3 years as you'll find its most likely black

Sorry Neil for delay in reply.

If its the module which is usually confirmed with the fault codes I had above. Then there are three options.

1) new module from ford £800 upwards.

2) remove your own module and send for repair there for eliminating the need for recoding.

3)buy second a hand module and pump and then get ford to code it to your car.

The reason I needed to bleed the brakes is I completely removed the electronic module and the ABS pump with are stuck together. I disconnected all the brake lines and sent all away as one complete unit.

Youl see its virtually impossible to split the module from the pump whiles its still in situ as is right against the bulkhead and the brake lines are in the way.

So when I refittef I had to recconect the brake lines and bleed the air out.

Cheers for the advice Garry.

Yeah my speedo works perfectly and always has done. In fact all my electrics in the car have always worked perfectly with the exception of those two warnings lights coming on, which is making  what at first seemed like a minor problem an incredibly frustrating one.

Kwik Fit actually phoned me back today and said that I need my ABS module repaired, quoting £840. Incredible! Anyway they confirmed that my error code was C1267. Any idea what this means?

Out of the options you provided I'm not really keen for 1). 2) sounds good but I wouldn't have a clue where to start, would a small independent garage be willing to do this? Regarding 3) how much would it cost to buy a second hand module and pump and any idea how much Ford are likely to charge?

My final option would be to get a new car on finance and trade my existing fiesta in. If I went down this route is the car garage likely to knock down the value they think my cars worth by amount £800 or are they unlikely to delve too deeply into any such problems?

Thanks again

Neil

Second hand module £50 - £100 on eBay. Garage hours labour to remove and hours labour to put back in. Ford an hours labour to code. I rekon about £300 - £400 this way.

I kept the cost of mines low because I was able to remove the pump and module myself and reinstall it. Would have been a lot more expensive if it was a garage I was paying.

If I were you id trade it In. Most places will only care that its got an MOT

Some garages give you a minimum trade in value of £2000 if it's got a valid mot.

question for you all. my repair has taken a turn for the worse and the company who were going to repair the module said they cant. they even offered a full rebuild then said no - it cant be done.

ive seen second hand units online but the code slightly differs to what im told i need. i think theres a code like 4s61 2m110 ea - but im getting conflicting info from each website i get quotes for abs parts for.

how important is the coding the unit part? my car is being repaired by someone local and hes trying to put in another abs from another ford and he said the code went away but i have a feeling he doesnt know what hes doing.. and what options do i have now?

ive seen fordpartsuk.com sell the part for £500 new but not sure if this can be trusted. i called my local ford and they quoted £1100 for the part alone. my car probably isnt worth more than £2k but i just fitted £700 of repairs before this and dont want to get rid. Any cheaper solutions???

Hi been reading about this fault replacement of abs pump module

Same part numbers do not require coding straight swap on a fiesta 2006 as anyone done this
