Pelmenis
Hi, I got myself an Escort a month ago, have driven 1300 miles with it and have made a bit of progress on it since then and intend to make it even more nicer. :) Here's how it looked when I got it. Fog lights were not working, so I got new bulbs, sorted out the wiring and now they're on. Removed those wind deflectors. The licence plates had seen better days so I got brand new pressed metal ones made. Clock bulbs were not working so I replaced them with new green LED's. It had a terrible gear knob on it which wasn't even installed correctly, so I swapped it out with this one. Looks pretty nice, I think. Semi-installed dash cam. Waiting for adapters to come in to draw power from fuse box. I got 15" Mondeo Si alloy wheels for it. Here's a test fit. They're not on the car yet as I need new alloy wheel nuts. Here you can also see the green side indicators I got. I also got this book to help me along the way. :) I also replaced front and rear window wipers, but I will get genuine Ford blades for the windscreen. To-do list: Courtesy lights do not come on when doors are opened. Need to fix that. Doesn't lock from driver side. Need to fix that. Give the bodywork some attention. Replace pedals (currently has terrible aftermarket ones which came with the car) Some other things... to be continued. :D

Took me a while because I needed to get these nuts Got piggy back fuse adapter and 12v-to-5v USB adapter. Now there is power to the dash cam straight from the fuse box

Pelmenis
Thanks dezwez. Yeah, I'm trying to look after it well. :) I got it up on a lift yesterday to have a look at what is going on underneath. It will need a bit of welding done on the driver side sill before the next MOT but other than that, it's not bad considering it's 16 years old. Pelmenis
4000 miles done under my ownership and still going strong! Decided to calculate what MPG my Escort is getting so I filled the tank and after 63 miles (a mix of towns, backroads and national roads) I stopped at another petrol station, filled it up again and ran the numbers. I got ~38 MPG which I thought was pretty good. I'm guessing it gets around 42 or so when cruising at 60 MPH.
Antonelson96
It looks great so far mate, a nice little project. In my Escort GTi I would get 30-35 MPG in it for a 1.8 petrol it's okay , but wouldn't achieve much more even if I drove it very carefully. What engine size is your Escort? Pelmenis
Thanks guys. @Antonelson96 - Mine is 1.4 CVH so 30-35 MPG for a 1.8 is quite good, I'd say. I'm sure I could squeeze out a bit more out of mine as well. @dezwez - Only about £450 on top of the purchase price. That includes all new tyres, wheels, brake pads and discs, oil, filters and more. This is what dash cams are really for... spotted another Escort hahah.
