laumk7
Yes you need to let insurance know of each and every single modification to your car, failure could invalidate your insurance policy
GingerFlame
How much is it around do I need to let insurance know ? Between £100-£200 depending on quality of film & application You must tell the insurance company about EVERY modification. No matter how small, they'll look for any excuse not to pay out in the case of an accident which can leave you in serious trouble should you kill someone etc www.yorkshiredetailing.co.uk - approved resellers of the Highest quality detailing & Valeting supplies
JSMarsden
Wow - I was going to get my windows tinted but now realising it may not be worth it. There is a really good place near me which would cost me for my 3 door around £140 (average price but great reviews and family been before). But notifying my insurance company of a modification 2 month into my policy (and only been driving 11months) may not be worth it...
iantt
Lad I know had his mazda damaged outside his house, insurance came and took photos, he had tinted windows not declared , before insurance had made a decision on damage, his car was torched outside his house ( obviously !Removed! someone off) Insurance refused to pay out on written off car due to not declaring tints and had photo evidence .

Couldn't he just have said he purchased the car with the tints on, and he didn't realise they were a modification to the vehicle? (As he could have purchased the vehicle with them already on?) Bit unfair if he did!

Bob_thebaldie
Your insurance may not go up. They just need to know. I had an Escort RS Turbo , yrs ago. I declared different alloys, Performance exhaust and a few other cosmetic changes, it went up about £50.

m1tch
Anything non standard needs to be declared no matter what it is else the insurance company won't pay out and you will then be liable for prosecution.

Matt87
I had my rear windows tinted last week, cost was £120 rang the insurance it went up about £50 for the year, I had my renewal notice the same week so haggled a bit and got it dropped down less than what it was before the tints, best thing to do is ring them first, get a quote and haggle the price
