Hello all i am new to the site.On Saturday i bought a Ford Focus 2001(Y) ghia 1.6 saloon and it has only done 34,000 miles and is spotless. But i saw that the cambelt had not been done it is almost 15 years old but has very very low miles so do i replace it or not...?

Thanks

Jack

Yes. Replacement interval is 100,000 miles or 10 years which in my personal opinion is too long, tensioners are known to fail around 50-80k or 5 years.

I'm a mechanic and mine are changed every 3-4 years regardless of mileage.

Yes, get it changed!  From what I've seen, it is actually low mileage older cars that suffer timing belt failure, more than cars with around 100,000 miles.  Probably due to the higher propensity for short, stop-start journeys.
