loose gear stick

was stood at traffic lights, put it in first gear i heard a loud ping,  then my gear stick went really loose and i was struggleing to find gears .had a quick look when i got home the spring underneath the gear stick had snapped any ideas if or hhow i can get hold of another and if youve had the same problem before did it snap the plastic case it sits in, will take plasics off on my next day off and have a better look,
