My first time at the ford fair at silverstone in my faithful Gti , left at 2 in the morning and got there on time at 6 eventually and parked up between a Focus ST170 and on old Sierra Saphiar. overall throughout the day  the car looked awesome and did get quite a few views, I got a few questions asked about it which was nice,  but to be honest I spent most of the day looked at what other people had to offer.  It was an amazing day and would certainly go again...

I did... it was a good day. I was in the second white Fiesta Mk7.5 ST on the left hand side.

Ahh nice , I sat in a Fiesta ST  at the Fair and I have to say it's quite a nice space to be in , completely different to a mk3 Fiesta which my Mum used to have... But I'm very happy in my Escort GTi 😊

Love that line-up pic of all those blue Focus RS's. But I wouldn't want to own one when the chances are the one next to you is slightly better

True , there were a lot to Ford Focus's in general the mk1 and mk2 RS and the ST there were a lot of them. I don't mind them as the differences between each Focus were how the owners have modified them to the specifications.  If I had a Focus I would be more worried about losing it in the crowd 😅

Another wash up and shine up , I'm sad to be parted with it in two weeks as I'll be moving out to go to uni , I have owned this car for nearly a year coming this September and has been a brilliant time both as a successful project and as a driving experience , it has never failed to but a huge smile on my face.  This will be stored over winter, any good advice for storing it? As it will be left unattended for long periods of a time , I have a car cover and it will be in a secure dry building but I'm more concerned about the battery and the tyres.

I'm sure you can find advice on Google. The obvious stuff would be to make sure it's dry and with a breathable cover and the battery disconnected. Some suggest sticking up on stands to stop the tyre getting flat spots. I guess you will be home often enough to start her up and move her around enough to not need to do that.

If it's stored through the winter think about a small glasshouse heater to keep the damp at bay and fluids from freezing.

If your dedication to your studies matches your work on your car then you should do very well. My kids found partying more fun than study so only just scrapped through their degrees.

Thankyou 😊 well like my Escort , im going to try my best and that's all that anyone can ask for...... I am going to miss it but I am going to start her and move her when I can , it's going in a dry wooden barn during winter but I will let her have a run when the weather is good during this time.

Hello Anton,
Well done for that restoration and dedication of a rare 2 door, your car looks great.
I have a silver 4 door Gti (run to Jan16) and brown 1.8 Ghia both stored away and am slowly getting some work done on them.
My GTI has done 151,000 (73,000 in my ownership since late 2007).
I just put her through an MOT and she failed on one corroded sill, CV joint, worn wheel bearing and part seized brakes,
(probably due to storage). But she passed the emissions and shes sound at the back. I got the wheel arches done, chassis
rails are fine, replaced the tailgate and new alternator. Definetly needs a new paint job.

But I'm not sure I can restore 2 (money and space), so may sell the Gti and prioritise the ghia.
cheers

Thankyou for your comment sorry for a late reply. If I'm honest depending on the mileage of the Ghia I would restore the Gti and sell it , a good Gti goes for more money than a Ghia at the moment. But it is perhaps worth hanging on to both of them and wait for there value to creep up and then fix them , maby in 2 or 3 years they would be worth a bit more than today.

Back home after two weeks of being away , toke her cover off and  it started first time and went for a drive.  checked all her fluids , oil and tire pressures which are all good. Still got her taxed , got my 3 years no claims so insurance was more friendly and still has 6 months MOT left on it so I can take her out when the weather is good 😊

If you believe 'howmanyleft' there are just 427 GTI's still registered and taxed and another 596 SORN (1,021 total). This is down from 1,300 in 2014 when I bought mine and 7,000 five years ago. No wonder there are so many sets of GTI wheels on eBay.

At this rate there might be only 200-300 left five years from now and at that point values should be soaring. So if you have the space to store cars in the dry and away from any risk of theft or damage it's probably a safe investment.

Toke it for a winter drive with a break in the weather and drives superb . I recently replaced  her exhaust as the old one joining to the cherry bomb had formed a rust hole so she now has the factory muffler and a full new exhaust  , sounds a lot quieter  but I miss the loud growl from the cherry bomb so I might get a new one but happy with it for now.

One problem is my airbag light keeps flashing, I have heard the sensor under the drivers seat can go funny causing this to happen ,so I fiddled around with it and checked the fuses all seems fine but it is still flashing four times and then a pause , suggestions would be appreciated
