Easiest and cheapest car mod I ever did

If you, like me, have colour coded your interior in any way (eg I have gone with a red/black theme, so all accents and stitching on the wheel and gaiters are red etc), and you have the Zetec (or similar) seats with white stitching, then it doesn't quite go with the overall theme.

A while back I had an idea, but I dismissed it as stupid and highly unlikely to achieve the desired look assuming it even worked at all, but after all this time my curiosity got the best of me and I decided to give it a try anyway, and much to my surprise, it was a success!

Behold the seat stitching transformation. And excuse the dirty seat (if you have any tips on how to get those dirt stains out please do let me know, foam upholstery cleaner hasn't really helped).

so how did you manage this result? its looking good i must say!

 

ive always used steam cleaners to get stains like that out, but eventualy with each use they will degrade the foam in the seat so i dont do it too often.

As for how I did it, would you believe me if I told you I used a sharpie? Lol. Attached a pic of the specific one I used. I think it helps immensely that the stitching isn't cotton/fabric like I thought, but synthetic material, so it holds the colour well without getting soaked. Just need to see if it stands the test of time, but I'm guessing it will, as the pen is supposed to be fade and water resistant, and the stitching is on parts of the seat that rarely get touched by anything.

Took just under an hour and a half to do the entire passenger side front and rear seats.

A commercial dry steam cleaner as opposed to a domestic moist steam cleaner will get those stains out.
