What fuel do you use?

Just thought that I would post to get comments on what the opinion is on quality fuels( she'll, esso, BP) vs supermarkets?

I've been using tesco for about 18 months and now I've changed to the new 1.5 tdci focus I am struggling to get the same consumption figures that my 13 plate 1.6 tdci got. A drop of about 10 miles per gallon.

Just wanted the forums opinion.

I use BP and Texaco will never use supermarket fuel anymore since both of my parents filled up just once with the fuel and had to have the whole fuel system re done, happened to a friend of mine too, for the sake of a few pence just go to a recognisable fuel station.

Been driving since I was 17, now 49 and I've ALLWAYS used supermarket/ low cost filling stations, like Tom says I've always had rubbish mpg as well, I can't get it into my head paying sometimes 8 to 10 pence a litre more for it, on a 60 litre tank that's £4.80 to £6.00 more a tankful, I only ever put £20 or £30 in at a time though.

In my diesel Focus I primarily used supermarket fuel and would once in a blue moon use the nice Shell or BP stuff. Ever since getting my new petrol Focus I have been putting in just Shell stuff or BP, not sure if it makes a lot of difference but I seem to get better MPG out of it (did in the diesel too).

It's been said on this forum or another that supermarket diesel has a proportion of biofuel in it. Ford state not to use biofuel.

That's what some folk have stated.

All diesel has bio in it nowadays unfortunately.  Morrison's has the most though which is why I avoid that myself.

On my Petrol focus I use Texaco but sometimes I use BP depends if I need a fill up and theres a BP beside me. I neber use supermarket fuel as some people I know had engine issues after using supermarket stuff. To be fair they were mostly diesels though but I wouldn't use the supermarket petrol either as when I did back in my fiesta and escort days it seemed to burn through the car alot quicker than branded fuel.

Used whatever fuel was the cheapest from wherever and never had nay issues with supermarket fuel. I have tried v power and the rest of the bullshit fuels, none of them make any difference whatsoever in my opinion.

All fuels come from the same refinery's so are all much the same to a degree.

I use Tesco mostly as it local to me sometimes Asda, and occasionally BP garages but mostly supermarket garages.

Tesco 99ron fuel had no issues an increase in mpg a happier engine

trust me supermarket fuel isn't the same that was proven during tests on fifth gear supermarket cheap fuel burned poorer and actually decreased horse power

Supermarket (usually tesco express that uses Essso fuel get club card points too)  with a 50ml dose of millers ecomax diesel additive.  Did a recent round trip from Aberdeen-Stirling avg 63.3 mpg.

Changed my fuel filter recently and noticed 2mpg increase. If i use a garage then it would be BP (to get nectar points) or Shell if its cheaper.

Mine has only ever had Vpower, but I'd use any 97RON or higher fuel from the big 4 in it, just stuck with Shell because they are the cheapest around here and I get vouchers from the points which make up for the difference somewhat.

If you have a brand new engine it might take some running in before you get the same MPG.

Which power version of the 1.5 tdci is it?

Cheapest from any garage around, have done for 35 yrs, no running issues with any of the cars ive had over those years from poor fuel.

I only ever used standard fuel from the big 4 in my previous cars. Only made the switch to Vpower for the ST because I read it only makes its full power on super unleaded.

I only really go to Shell, every 3-4 tanks I'll use Vpower+, definitely get better mpg from Shell as well.

Mine is a 2015 plate 1.5 120bhp done 20k, claims are on combined it can get 74 MPG but after reading reviews, mostly they claim 50MPG is more realistic.

Maybe it's just me.

Also I'm thinking how much of a difference do tyres make to MPG? When I got the car, 2 weeks ago, I could only negotiate 2 new tyres in the deal and the garage would only put on their brand. So I have 2 conti's on the front, quite worn, 2 new oriums, Arnold clarks own make on the rear. My mate is manager in a tyre place and I get good discount from him, so will replace the tyres, and I want to replace them with the original tyres that would have come on the car, SO does anyone know what brand would have been on the 235/40/18 focus Zetec s 2015?

I'm no a boy racer, far from it nowadays, I always fill to the brim and run till about 100 miles left in tank then refill.

After all your comments I'm thinking on moving my fuel to BP for the next couple months then see how it performs. Just cause it's handy for me.

For my 1.0ltr EB I use BP 97 Ultimate purely because it's a company car and I want points... Had it since day one and just about to hit 28k and currently at 39.9mpg... Plenty of foot to the floor so I think it's quite good haha

Whatever is nearest whenever I need to fill back up, nearly always Sainsburys, Morrisons or Tesco. Not worth putting good fuel in my car! Think I have used BP twice and some random local garage once, didn't really see a difference.

I'm gonna try the expensive stuff for a few tanks. See if I notice any difference? Be worth the extra few quid to see if there is or not.

I'll keep ya posted of my results.

I use the standard Shell diesel in my car, thing that made the most difference to MPG is running some diesel purge through the injectors.

personally would not use the cheap stuff just incase the worst but a thinks the supermarket fuel and Shell, bp etc might run the same but in the future you will get carbon build up in system which will be an issue
