Ford_lover38
Hi All, My car has done 54k miles and is an 09 plate. Next year its supposedly due for a new cambelt/timing belt. However would you advise this as i have done no where near the 100k miles! My mileage per a year is less than 5k miles. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks guys
AdeMk1
Change it every 3-4 years regardless of mileage. Its not just a matter of miles, the belt deteriorates over time.

The belt is rated for 10 years at least I've never seen a belt deteriorate before that time unless mileage is high or its contaminated. I'd replace year 8-9 you're wasting money if you replace every 3-4 years just due to age and I've been a fully qualified mechanic for 20 years
iantt
agree, mileage high, contaminated, tensioner fail, or waterpump fail. belts last longer than the recomended change intetvals. i certainly wont be changing mine before 150k/10yrs.
Ford_lover38
Thanks for all your posts guys, very helpful. My car has only been 7 years @ 56k miles so I wont bother doing it for another couple of years.
