Aircon Fan Not Working

Hi Guys,

Today the aircon fan / heater fan in my T Reg Ford focus 1998 1.6 stopped working.

I changed the antifreeze this afternoon, i had it on full heat and full power fine. Then when i came to use the car this evening the fan doesn't work at all on any setting.

Its not the knob, i checked all the fuses inside the glove box and under the bonnet and they all seem fine.

I did notice the clock inside the car had reset aswell. :/

Any ideas ?

Thanks

Just realised, the only reason the clock reset was cos i checked all the fuses one by one and pulled the clock one aswell.

no idea about the fan though :/

if the fan isnt working you either have an airlock or the aircon needs topped up or the fan switch is faulty start by checking fault codes

Would it still not work even if i was had it on heat ? It used to before.

Any idea on best way to check to switch without dismantling the dash board ?

Think he means cabin fan, must have not put 1 of the fuses back properly or disturbed a wire.

fan or resitor pack at fault probably

Yeah i meant the cabin fan.

would the resistor pack break and stop it working on all 4 settings ?

Fan most likley if fan speed 4 not working either, double check fuse 64

Fuse 64 inside the car or outside ?

Under bonnet in fuse box, 30amp

Okay so............

I checked all fuses, they are okay. i took the fan out, that is fine works of a 12v battery np.

I checked the resistor pack, they seem to be fine all have continuity through them. The wire that power the fan has no power to it at all when the engine is on and the aircon setting at 1,2,3 and 4.

Could it be the switch ? i assume its alot of hassle to take the dash apart and get to it ?

Is there any easy way to test the switch before i buy a new one ?

Have you got a multimeter? Check for voltage at fan motor connector, pin1 , voltage ok check resistance between the other pin and earth, you should get varying resistances depending on switch position

Yeah i got meter.

i checked the voltage earlier on the plug tht connects to the fan motor, there was something like 0.08 when i had the multimeter on 20v.

like i said i knw the fan work. I checked the resistors they seem fine. All the fuses are fine. So i can only assume the switch has something wrong.

Should have 12 v at connector, just drawn a rough diagram so you can see how its wired up, the motor has the permanant 12v ign feed and resistor pack and switch give the earth path, diageam to follow in a minute

As you can see 12 v at connector for motor, you can see that if you put multimeter at resistor pack connector pin 2,3,4 in turn and earth ,each should give continuity if switch ok
