Engine System Fault but NO Errors

For about a month I have been getting the Engine System Fault message and the car going into "Limp" mode. It starts fine in the morning and then after about 1/4 mile I get the message. I have driven a long way in Limp mode. The car is fine, but only to around 30000 RPM.

I have had a couple of garages look at it but they could find no errors or reasons why this happened. Today I bit the bullet and took it to a Ford main dealer for their diagnosis. Exactly the same, they could find no errors recorded in the system. They tried disconnecting some sensors and still no errors were recorded.

It seems to me that there is a fault in the error handling bit, whatever that is. However without an error code the Ford mechanics say they would just be guessing. A few months back I had the binacle checked and rebuilt properly for another problem. The car worked really well until  this started a few weeks back. How Ford can create something which handles errors and then have their staff not know what to do amazes me. However .... anyone got any ideas on what it may be or how to get it back up to normal running.

Cheers, Ed

it will be the dash cluster or wiring no idea why suddenly they started to fail I've had one in the last few years in the last few months seen 7 if you switch the car off and then on it sometimes clears but getting the management light lump mode no codes stored no codes pending or can bus codes links it to dad cluster and or dad cluster wiring a ford dealer should know to check it

SORTED

After talking to a couple of people I got th glow plugs changed (against the garage's advice). That sorted it!
Glow plug changes appear a lot on the pages and I have sonce heard more stories about difficult diagnoses ending up with glow plug problems.

I cannot recommend  enough changing them when there are management system faults, or even on a service schedule.

I have told Ford that if their dealer returns the money I paid for a useless diagnosis I will tell them a diagnosis and for free include the fix! Thanks for the help from here

Exactly the same on mine - EML and limp mode but no codes.  I took it to a specialist tuning company who knew what it was when no one else could even guess.  They said straight away it would be glow plus or EGR fault so got them to blank and delete the EGR form the system at the same time so it never plays up again.  Right as rain since so can't fault them.  (You didn't say your car is a diesel so I didn't make the link with glow plugs)

Glow plugs and the EGR will certainly log an error code if they are defective and crying lump home mode. I know because mine had both issues and both produced error codes that pointed to them. Ford should have got those error codes when doing diagnostics, if there's was none even after unplugging sensors then they should have been looking at why no codes were stored then check the codes once that issue was fixed.

Something does not sound right at all.

I didn't use Ford - first tried mt own OBD2 with Torque Pro (no codes), then went to my normal independent garage (again no codes) even though the car was clearly in limp mode.  It was not until i went to a specialist tuning/mapping place I know that they diagnosed the glow plugs, and even then it was not the computer which told them but their own experience of seeing this a few times previously.
