Sinclairjustin
Hi I am new to this forum, so thanks for reading. My 2006 focus 2.0 has just failed it's mot due to emissions. Basically all the oil was just going straight through the system. As the rest of the car is in fairly good condition I wanted to try and save it. Fitting a recon engine looked to be the cheapest option. Unfortunately finding a garage that appears trustworthy is a challenge. Can anyone recommend a company in the Bucks area? Thanks, Justin. Tdci-Peter
Before shelling out for a re-con engine, have a good look underneath, especially all the rear suspension & sub-frames. This area is prone to rust, especially if the car is kept outside like mine. An MOT pass is no guarantee, the metal parts are quite thick, and they will only worry if the corrosion is bad enough to fail now, or in a few months. You need to be looking at several years use to get back the engine cost. May be worth getting this area fully rust treated. I recommend Phosphoric acid (as used in Jenolite), then an underbody sealer. But if corrosion is too bad already, then you may need to reconsider.
