Hey guys recently my car had the HP fuel pump replaced,  at this time the software on the ecu dated 2005 was updated using elm config and the update files available, it updated fine and drive ok, the only issue Im getting is at 1500 rpm there feels like a flat spot I can replicate this everytime, it almost feels like the engine is dying but a split second later the power is back

To me it feels like the ecu software,

I have been talking to a few mechanic friends (not ford specialist unfortunately) and they said that they heard stories that updating the software even with for this has happened,

Can anyone confirm this? Or any suggestions?

At this minute I'm thinking of getting a reputable aftermarket tuner to take a look at the map and see what's what

Thanks guys

Did Elmconfig create a backup or recovery file to allow a re-load of the original software / map?

If so, I would try it to confirm that the update caused the flat spot, as opposed to some other odd problem.

Hi I have a 2007 1.8 tdci I haven't had any software updates but when I first purchased my car I had flat spots in the same rev range 1500rpm until the turbo kicks in.

i just thought common diesel reading through threads on here so I used a egr blanking plate n blanked it off my flat spot has gone also turbo kicks in lot sooner now

I did make a back up when it was flashed, but a few weeks later my laptop HDD died and I lost the lot so I no longer have the back up

HDDs seem have a habit of dying at just the worst time!

EGR can give power dips at certain points, if it is malfunctioning, unless it is already blanked.

However, if the EGR actuator starts badly malfunctioning, then the MIL lamp will light with EGR DTCs, regardless of whether blanked or not. The pcm monitors the physical position of the valve actuator.

I have had to repair the actuator on my 1.8 a couple of times: Just bad contacts (3 different places) inside the actuator. I have just serviced the actuator, so it is now working well, un-blanked the EGR, and there is hardly any noticeable difference compared to the blanked EGR.

Peter.
