Hello all,
Thanks in advance for helping me with this frustrating problem.  My 2009 Ford Focus SE (standard transmission) is refusing to start.  I have troubleshooted a lot thus far and what seems to be the issue is that the starter is not receiving poet from the ignition.  I turn the key and all the lights come on (the radio works, idiot lights on, dashboard is functional, etc...). But there is no crank, nothing at all.  So far i have replaced the ignition switch, the ignition lock cylinder, the neutral clutch safety switch, and ALL of the fuses and relays associated with the starter. I can't seem to figure out what the issue it.  Any input on the issue would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks,
Sebby

Side not:  I can push start the car without issue.

rocking it in gear used to work on every Ford I owned in the 1980's

I think that was only if the starter jammed in engagement (tooth-to-tooth abutment). It wouldn't do anything if it's not engaged.

They get dry spots in the windings

I think you mean dirty spots on the commutator.

From Sebastian's description it sounds as if the solenoid is not operating (because he didn't say anything about it clicking). Things to check would be the earth strap between engine and chassis and, using a multimeter, test if any voltage is present on the solenoid terminal when the key is turned.

The earth strap is fitted under one of the starter mounting bolts, The solenoid body has two terminals, the larger one is the supply for the motor and the smaller for the solenoid. There should be battery voltage on the larger terminal all the time and on the smaller one only when the key is turned to position III.
