Ford Focus 2013 - 2nd/3rd Gear Grinding

Hi,

I've recently purchased a second hand Ford Focus (2013 reg). Occasionally, it makes a grinding sound when changing from 2nd to 3rd gear.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Should I get it checked before the warranty expires!

Any ideas much appreciated!

Hi, it's a 1-litre Ecoboost engine (Petrol), 5 speed gearbox.

Regardless, you most definitely should get it in before the warranty is up. Even if they've not fixed before warranty end, as long as it's been in and diagnosed they should fix.

The grinding could be a dodgy/broken synchromesh perhaps? Does the clutch operate normally, how many miles on the clock?

Thanks for your reply. It's only done 24,000 miles. Clutch seems to operate normally, it doesn't do it every time, just occasionally.

Will probably get it checked just to be on the safe side!

as dave says, get it checked out at your local ford dealer.

Might sound stupid but are you fully depressing the clutch between changes or could you be mistiming the clutch/gear change occasionally?

I did think that, but it only ever happens between 2nd and 3rd so thought it's unlikely!
