Castrol is ok and recommended by ford (probably down to commercial reasons more than anything else to be fair), but as long as it meets the specific specification (important on modern engines) you won't go wrong with those brands you've mentioned above too.

Ecoboost engines use a different oil, 5w 20 I think off the top of my head (not 100%), so be careful to read the handbook before you add anything

5w20 is the recommended oil but 5w30 is the alternative and is fine to use, some people who have used 30 say it quite a the engine a bit, aslong as it is the same spec (not just the 5w20, 5w30 etc) as ford recommend it will be fine.

Why would you use anything other than the recommended oil?

Because you can and it won't affect anything, some dealers use 20 others use 30.

depends on the engine, the st can use either 5w20 or 5w30, theres no issue. the problem only arises on engines that use variable pressure oil pumps, thats the 1.0 ecoboost , then its 5w20 only.

The st can use either 5w20 or 5w30,. However the oil is for my girlfriends 1.25 mk7 ...   So 5w30 is what's recommended I went for the Shell in the end as it was a tenner cheaper 😊

Go for the 5w30 in that engine, lots cheaper and more available than 5w20.
