Head Unit Upgrade

Hi All

Looking for some advise or maybe some instructions if possible. I have a 57plate MK2 Zetec petrol which has the Sony CD factory installed, along with the bluetooth module in the dash and the Voice button on the steering stork and an aux plug in the glovebox. The issue I have is that the bluetooth does not work, nothing in the menu and when I press the phone button it say "MUTE"

My understanding is that this means that the BT module is likely to have failed and that even if it was working I would not be able to stream music via bluetooth as the this version does not support it.

What I would like to do is replace the existing head unit and related items so that it does what I need it to do, and have seen discussions around this in other posts. To this end I have managed to source a newer CD6000 head unit, but have not tried it out yet.

Can anyone advise me what I need to do to make this work? I am guessing that I will need to replace the BT module in the dash, possibly the wiring loom and also find the code for the CD6000 I have sourced.

Anything which points me in the right direction that would be great, thanks

The 6000 CD does not support BluetoothAudio and sounds like crap.

Personally I would search for a GEN3 Sony radio and install a Sound & connect (bluetooth/voicecontrol wit USB, bluetooth audio and Ipod support) module.

To be clear, it doesn't support AUDIO over BT but it does, or should, give you voice calls, I always found it pretty rubbish to be honest.  the later versions had BT audio for music etc but older ones were not so good.

However, BT should work to some degree, so do you mean you cant get anything working at all, or that you cant get audio to play?

Hi Dee

Currently I believe I have the Sony CD Gen 2 (I think) installed, with the Voice option on the stork and BT module in the dash. This radio works okay, and can connect my iPhone to the Aux in the glovebox. I can't however use BT at all, the head unit does not have a BT option in the menu and my iPhone won't detect anything.

Not tried the CD6000 unit yet as I need to source the code, and get a couple of tools before I can. Don't need anything fancy, and would rather not have to fit a Parrot as I like how the dash looks currently so don't want to spoil it with any extra boxes. Will however got for the cheapest option if I can

Hi,

Its worth taking note; The bluetooth modules for the focus are different to those for the mondeo although looking identical the software is very different, the same goes for the headunits; a mondeo headunit has different software installed no way to alter this neither I found the hard way.

I've created a Guide on switching to the aftermarket though:

And here's my old phone used as a temporary sound system😀 actually had more features than the 6000cd too. IMG_20141016_200047_zpsbb1snprl.jpg
