St2 to st line 140

Cost is the biggest issue, but (having driven both) I think the miles that you do and who is carried in the car can also define the choice. If I did low miles (10k) with the family rarely in the car, it would be a ST all day long. However, that's not what I need. My 140 went to the Nurburgring and Spa over the weekend, and will get flung around Goodwood on Saturday, so not a bad second choice.

For me fuel cost isn't really the issue as I only do 16miles a day to work and back. More the fact that anytime I park it somewhere I always have the thought that one day I'll come back to it and it's not there. Touch wood haven't had a problem so far and always put my disklok on as a deterrent..the 140 is seeming to get good thoughts off of people

What is the best selling model,the 1.0 125eco range or the 140 as i seem to see a lot of the 140's popping up now.

Never been in a ST or 140 st line or ZS but is the ride a big factor being the ST is a solid ride and ZS/ST Line softer as mine holds the road amazing and

only the Titanium so the sport side must be mind blowing amazing also when is the new lot being out by ford and old model prices will drop a nice bit.

Just to note that 125PS is still Tax exempt for the moment where as the 140ps is £20 I think. This is due to the different gearbox setup.

A mapped titanium x was my option. Has more gadgets than an ST / ST Line etc, free road tax, better 0 - 60 than a 140ps. Great little car.

What is the best selling model,the 1.0 125eco range or the 140 as i seem to see a lot of the 140's popping up now.

Never been in a ST or 140 st line or ZS but is the ride a big factor being the ST is a solid ride and ZS/ST Line softer as mine holds the road amazing and

only the Titanium so the sport side must be mind blowing amazing also when is the new lot being out by ford and old model prices will drop a nice bit.

The St ride isn't to bad, it can feel a bit hard on bumpy roads but the recaros are really nice seats. But as it is stiffer it handles like it's on rails. Feels so planted and little body roll

Think they're meant to be out the first quarter/half of next year

Ive seen threads on your car willy and it looks nice mate..as mines on the privilege scheme I don't really plan on spending out for remaps etc as I'll end up giving the car back anyways. Could always change my mind on that though haha..to be fair £20 Road tax a year is naff all!

I've got a zetec s as a courtesy car at the moment, I'll be honest with you, I can't wait to get my ST back. 

Accelerating uphill is one of these reasons, there's a stretch on the m4 motorway where it links the m5 and m48. This has a gradient to it, not much but it's there and I had my foot planted all the way down overtaking two lorries in this 1 Lane section of the m5. The ST would've found that a breeze, I personally won't be taking a backwards step lol

Handling doesn't really work like that.  On a smooth race track yes, but on our rough roads with potholes and lorry ruts a stiff setup with low profile tyres makes the handling worse!!  The lowering should improve centre of gravity for less roll on corners but the extra stiffness may make that redundant anyway.

I can drive my comfort spec Focus faster on any dual carriageway or B road than the Mk6 Fiesta ST, or indeed my mates sports/track cars...  Obviously it takes longer to reach the speed but when it's there I can carry it over rough ground and rutted A roads without a problem where the ST jumps and skips over rough ground and gets pulled into lorry ruts etc.  If I was keeping the ST I'd have fitted smaller lighter wheels with fatter tyres to try to make it a bit better, those wheels are clearly purely for looks lol.

What engine variant is in the courtesy car? 125 or 140?

I know there will be a difference between the zs and the st as there's 40bhp less. Just trying to weigh up the pros and cons for both :/

I tend to change gear at 3000 rpm and it's brilliant. Far better than my XR2 MkII (1.6) which was 96bhp as opposed to the 125.

I rarely go above 3k unless i'm burning off a boy racer (then it's 4k) which I've done many times, although they tend to chicken out above 30mph (pathetic). My typical pootle speed is ~50mph. That's presumably why my mpg is ~35 tops.

I never floor it, 62 in 2nd is a no no, asking for trouble in the long run.
If the boy racer wants to do it i'll happily watch him collect the fallen nuts and bolts from the roadside.

Boy racer = lowered suspension, spaced wide wheels, no badges, maybe a power bulge in the bonnet, dark windows, rear aero-foil, huge exhaust outlet, go faster stripes, sounds like a tank/subaru, richard behind the wheel.

Power is purely a personal thing, depends what you've had before and what you're used to etc.  As a more 'experienced' gentleman, modern cars are bound to feel quick compared to the engines of the past.  I often see retro cars and wonder how they ever moved...I mean a 1.6 75bhp in a huge Capri or a 1.3 70bhp in an Escort Estate for example!  And as you say the sports model of the old Fiesta wasn't even 100bhp!  Seem to remember even the later one was only 115bhp... :yawn:

Power is purely a personal thing, depends what you've had before and what you're used to etc.  As a more 'experienced' gentleman, modern cars are bound to feel quick compared to the engines of the past.  I often see retro cars and wonder how they ever moved...I mean a 1.6 75bhp in a huge Capri or a 1.3 70bhp in an Escort Estate for example!  And as you say the sports model of the old Fiesta wasn't even 100bhp!  Seem to remember even the later one was only 115bhp... :yawn:

I actually upshift at 3.000 rpm myself normally as well. However if I need to overtake, I'll drop into the lowest possible gear and hit the red line before upshifting (I prefer to get into the proper lane again ASAP)

 

With the 125 I always had to wait half a second or so for the power to come back after upshifting, whereas the 140 has power immediately. It makes a huge difference to me :-)

 

Oh also my picture is obsolete, I sold the black edition and currently drives a 140 Titanium instead (needed the 5 doors)

I kind of wish they didn't have the eco arrow popping up on the dash 😂🙈, I think to stay in the decent power around 3k is an ideal time to shift. Unless like you said for overtaking more revs are better.

In the ST you don't have to drop it down the gears as much to accelerate.

Glad to hear you find the 140 better. I saw a deep impact blue and a grey st line parked on someone's drives today and they both looked nice

I'm the same,power isn't a major thing for me as long as its nippy and a nice ride with a nice amount of toys is what i like.

As for the handling i think to a degree it is a thing to look at,i had a old 09 corsa and it was bad on corners and i mean bad but this one

i can go round a corner that bit faster and sticks and feels solid when you go round and the main thing is safer, im not a mad driver in anyway.

I don't think i would come from a ST only unless i had to like money or family if i had a ST,if i went straight to a 140 then upto a ST i would not miss it.

It was a 125 zetec s, other thing I missed apart from acceleration up hill was cruise control, I missed the bucket seats as I generally lolopped into the car without them.  I also missed heavily keyless technology.  No way would I swap my st3 for a lower car now

See having an st2 which I choose so it didn't have keyless entry. The seats I would miss though

Modern cars need more power to move their weight around. XR2 has less than 100bhp but it's power to weight is nearer the mk6 STs than the headline figure is. Less weight makes it more agile etc.

ST2s are still keyless start which is where the theft risk comes from, To a thief all cars are keyless entry with a screwdriver or brick.

They are keyless start correct. I just prefer having to use a fob to lock and unlock the car. Push button start is cool but don't find it to much of a hardship using a key either aha..obd port move, fuse removal and disklok help with the safety. Would prefer not having to do that though 🙈

Saw a st line today in the magnetic grey colour and it look pretty smart, I am tempted..
Think i'll be putting an order in for the deep impact blue instead though
