Leak in brand new Ka

I purchased a new Ford Ka a couple of months ago and after only having it for a couple of weeks I noticed a leak in the rear passenger side footwell.I took it to two garages to get fixed before they actually knew what was wrong and it turned out that there had been a leak coming from the boot which has filled most of my car underneath with water.I think its shocking that I bought a new car and this has happened and will be the last Ford I ever buy.So just to warn anyone who has bought one already just to keep an eye on the footwells incase this is a problem in alot of the new Ka's.

I'm having a similar problem on my '08 reg Ka (old shape though, so not same as yours). Mine is leaking into the driver's footwell from behind the scuttle panel. I'm not surprised that the new Fords are suffering from the same problems. It also wouldn't surprise me if the new Ford's suffer from the rust problems Fords have been having for 30+ years.

Hi, just read your post and this is exactly what I've just discovered with my brand new Ka! I thought there was a maybe a faulty seal around my passenger door since there is only water behind my passenger seat, but having read your post now I'm not so sure... Did you take it to a Ford garage? And was the work covered by the warranty? I love my Ka but this has really stressed me out cos it shouldnt be happening in a new car!

Water ingress is covered under 1st year of warranty. When its in 2nd/3rd years of warranty, you have to file a case with Ford customer relations, explain to them the problem, and they will investigate doing it as a goodwill gesture. You will get a case number. Give this to your Ford dealer/garage.

Hey, I've now had my car in to get looked at 3 times for the water ingress and they still haven't fixed it even though they keep finding the water in the same area.Any advice on what I should do? Do you think I should now make a complaint to Ford about it.

When did you reecive the car? Assuming it is more or less brand new, it isn't unreasonable to find that the water is only a problem since it has been wetter (if they say "why hasn't it happened before?" on the assumption you got it in the summer-ish).

If it was me, and they hadn't solved the issue after 3 visits, I would be tempted to ask sternly that they provide a courtesy car until they fix all issues and replace the carpet too (as it will be damaged). Make a note of any unhelpful managers and advise them that you intend to write to head office if the problem cannot be resolved (being polite of course - there might be a recall in the works).

Failing that, yes - a recorded delivery letter to Ford head office explaining your situation would be advisable, but experience shows that composed and reasonable letters get better responses than ones making too many 'demands'.

Ideally, I would push for the car to be taken back indefinitely by Ford, if you can prove the fault was there at the time of purchase. This is tricky, but if successful, Ford have no leg to stand on if they cannot fix the car.

Forget messing about with the dealer. As I said, call Ford customer relations and make an official case with them - you'll get a case number, give this number to your Ford dealer, and you'll suddenly be surprised at how much more professional your dealer starts acting about doing the repair!

I've had it since August and its a 09 plate so it was brand new when I got it.I phoned customer relations to make a complaint and got a case number. They said they need to keep looking at it until they fix it so it's booked in again to get looked at and they are sending out a ford engineer to look at it this time.Hopefully it will get fixed!

Hi, did they look at your Ka yet? I had the exact same thing, so clearly it must be some kind of manufacturing fault even though the snooty woman on the reception at the ford place i bought it from claimed it wasnt a common thing and she'd never seen it before, well speak to your customers love!

I think the leak is sorted now tho i did have issues, not only with the general attitude of the women on reception but with the fact they didnt even bother to dry the carpet properly even though they'd told me it was all sorted and ready to collect! total incompetance!

This morning I've noticed inside my back window there were beads of water along where the heating elements (or whatever they are called) are, I'm pretty sure this is not normal! It was like minus 6 this morning so i'll see how it is tomorrow before I contact the knobs at ford again, but if anyone else has had this problem let me know or if anyone else has any ideas on this?

I've got the same problem with my new Fiesta.

I noticed when changing the rear Speakers that the carpet in the boot in the back right corner was completely soaked through, when I lifted the cover, my spare wheel well has filled with about 1inch of water!!! :o

Its visiting Ford tomorrow.....I'l keep you updated as to how it goes!!

:o

This is all rather shocking!!

Hope you guys get your cars sorted. You don't expect that! I got rid of my V reg due to loads of corrosion and occasionally having wet feet as it is.

I've just bought a brand new Ka, only picked it up less than a week ago so will be keeping an eye out for any potential leaks!

Thanks for the warning. Keep us posted on how you get on.

Update : I got my car back after the 4th time of it being in the garage and yet again the water has came back in the exact same place and has now turned to ice underneath the carpet! All ford customer relations seem to have to say is that you need to keep taking it back to the garage until they fix it even though everytime I do get it back they say it's fixed. It's actually a disgrace they haven't fixed it yet! So again for the 5th time I have to take it to the garage.

Tell your dealership Manager "This is totally unacceptable, you have supplied me with faulty goods and despite me giving you pleanty of opportunity to rectify the issue, you have failed to do so. I am now legally entitled to request a refund or replacement under Trading Standards Law - The Sale of goods act. I will give you not longer than one fortnight to supply me with a brand new vehicle that is to spec and without fault. Your failing to do so will result in legal action on your company which I will win. I will then sue you for the court costs and all reasonable expense and damage". You could go on and on with this but you get the gist. If it doesn't work then find a lawyer or solicitor and ask them how much they would charge to do a letter stating your solid legal case - That should work.

Good luck Caz

Totally agree with this! At the end of the day, you've obviously been sold a faulty product.

What about all the inconvenience you've endured and are continuing to endure?

It's really not on!

Noooooooo after all this chat, thought I'd give my car carpet an inspection, I have too discovered a pond in my passenger foot well. All the snow and rain hasn't helped. But this is the first time I've noticed it. I have a 06 StreetKA which I bought last year with only 8,000 miles on the clock. No reason why it should be leaking from wear.....I to have fallen victim to shoddy workmanship. I went down to the local garage to get an opinion on the severe leak - the passenger footwell is sodden. And they said it will need to be taken to a bodyworks for the car to be pulled apart and looked at. They had no clue where is was leaking from. Sounds like ££££ to me. I am too very distressed as I don't want by beloved StreetKA to rot away.......I wonder if my leak is to coming from the boot? But its perfectly dry in the boot and everywhere else apart from the flipping passenger well. There is a lot of water - it can't be ignored really. And I can't take a passenger unless they wear wellies!

I've always had KA's before this (never a Street) and not once had this leaking malarkey. It's really shocking. I thought maybe it was the price you pay for having a cabriolet but that doesn't seem the case. Unlike you fortunate guys my warranty has expired so will have to wait until the summer to get the car waterproofed, if I manage to save any money between now and then, and hoping the car doesn't turn into a rust bucket! What a nuisance............I adore KA's and this has really dashed my opinion on them. Just miserable. Its worse that no specialist opinion can identify the underlying cause....

Oh no sophy that doesnt sound good!

Yeah it definately seems to be a common problem whether its the old style or new style ka, or perhaps fords in general.

It is depressing, esp when your car is new or only a year or 2 old, you really dont expect this to happen.

I had the leak in the rear passenger footwell, ford replaced something on the door, (dont know the technical word for it, doh!) before christmas and it seemed ok, though honestly havent been able to tell becasue the cars been covered in snow most of the time, last few days the heavy rains started again, and yesterday noticed a slight dampness around the floor again.

I'm going to wait till the rain stops and try and dry it as much as I can and then see what happens cos at the moment cant tell if its just wet from opening the door in the rain or if it is another leak... so annoying!

Amie its a total nightmare.

Yes sounds like a common fault with Ford, on that premise, I will put up a case and hopefully get it repaired under Ford costs not my own!! Yesterday when I got into my car the passenger footwell was 2 inches deep in rain water......I was planning to hold out until the summer to get it inspected and sorted but looks like my StreetKA won't be holding out for that long. The car will end up stinking of stagant water soon.

I shall ring my nearest Ford Dealer tomorrow and talk it through. I'll let you know what they say. Probably nothing productive!

So you don't think that is the end of your leaking saga? How miserable. The problem is identifying where the leak is coming from....I really hope they don't have to dismantle the whole of my KA! Although it could do with new carpet. I doubt it is just coming through your door seal. Was it anything to do with your boots leaking? And the draining running through to your footwell?

This leak problem really is terrible. It's becoming a problem on some new Fiestas too. This really is bad, especially for those who have to sleep in their cars, it would be awful. I hope Ford sort this all out for you guys quickly, and for free.

Hi, all, I'm new on here! Don't like what I'm hearing about these water leaks as my wife bought a new KA. And after the hassle we had from Gates, Harlow, I won't be a happy bunny if her car starts to let in water.....
