by way of introduction, passed my test in 80, got a mk1 estate, then a sport, then a mexico, that was a bit of a dog, sold it built an RS2000 in the sport by way of a mk3 Cortina 2ltr, then a mk3? capri, then a mk3 escort estate, then a mk3 xr3i, then another capri 2ltr laser, then a mk3 fiesta, then a mk4, then a mk1 ka, (then an ex PO van, doh!) then a mk5 fiesta and we are up to date now, only had the sport and mexico at the same time for a while as I backed the mexico out of the garage without fully closing the door, it jarred open and caught in the garage door jamb, bent the welded hinge, but some guy called around to ask to buy it without it being for sale so off it went and I upgraded the sport as RS2's were hard to find good even back then, only my ist estate (blue) and first fiesta (white) were not red, all the rest were, bit of a sore point with me that, you see when I got into cars virtually all the fords were "decent" colours, lime green, bright orange, light blue, crimson or scarlet red and even a purple, now pretty much everything looks like its either in a black and white old film or off to a funeral, sorry if that upsets anyone, to me a car colour should make you go, wow, look at that, and it pop your eyes out, I'm getting older so resale values and urban myth? rule out yellow so that just leaves good old solid non metallic red, ( easier to touch in) funny thing is I got a tin of ford ivory spray from Halfords for a non car related project and it struck me, how long has that colour been going? I remember it from ages back, back when I started fords won everything, barry lee, waldegard, capris too, and lived at the top 3 in the sales charts, datrust had that blue velour all over, Volvos looked like doylams riding around in the blazing sunshine with full beam on, fords had rubber mats, vinyl seats ,no radios, a foot operated screen wash and wipe, they were still a million times more cool than anything else ordinary on the road.i must admit I wish the latest fiesta looked like the corsa, but after the van I doubt ill venture away from the blue oval again, I once took a fettler to hebden bridge in a works pool car, a crysler alpine, turned off a roundabout, eased my grip on the steering wheel and we had to go round again, felt a right xxxx, recirculating ball steering! not the same as fords rack and pinion, went to brake and we lurched forward and back like a comedy film, the pedals must have been slightly out of where they were on every ford id ever been in , including vans and a truck with 3 drop sides each side! now that was a long truck for me, when somebody shunted another car into my Ka and I had a courtesy one, a Peugeot, having turned out of a junction and noticing the indicators hadn't self cancelled I gently nudged the stalk up, ok no problem, then I noticed the clocks looked a bit dark although it was getting light ( morning drive to work), turned out stupid cars lights were now of and I only lightly touched it, cant do that with a ford, unless its changed as you have to twist the stalk, well there you are, hope I didn't bore you all too much, happy motoring,
