Is there a panel missing?

Hi,

I was parking my Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec 2013 the other day and I could feel something moving when I turned the steering wheel down by my feet. I had a look around the pedals and discoverd this.(see pic)

Is this suppose to be like this? You would think there would be some kind of panel there to protect the steering wheel column from being damage or from getting dirt in it.

I don't know whether there should be be a panel but mine is the same as yours. Just yesterday I felt the shaft turn under my left foot (which hasn't got anything else to do as mine is an auto!) My auto Mondeo was the same.

Thanks for the quick response. This seems really odd. Its like there is a big part of the car missing behind the pedals. Least I know now I am not the only one.

Totally normal.
They don't fit them on the mk2/2.5/3/3.5.
Always thought it a bit daft too but hey-ho.
