HI ALL,

RECENTLY BOUGHT A 2002 KA COLLECTION WITH 56k MILES.

WHEN ITS STARTED ITS SOUNDS LIKE A GRINDING NOISE?

IT DOESN'T REALLY EASE OFF AS DRIVING TOO.

THE CLUTCH BITES REALLY LOW, BUT EVEN IF IT WAS THE RELEASE BEARING, SURELY THE NOISE WOULD QUIETEN OFF WHEN CLUTCH PRESSED?

I AM RIGHT IN UNDERSTANDING, THESE CARS SUFFER FROM GEARBOX FAULTS?

ALSO DOES ANYONE LOCALLY TO ME FANCY CHANGING THE CLUTCH FOR ME? (WITH PAYMENT OBVIOUSLY)

sounds like you need to start off by changing the clutch.cost about £125.00 then about 2.5 hours fitting.if the clutch is biting low then it's not worn its when it bites high its worn so more info on that please.

does the grinding noise happen on tockover or when moving or when clutch is depressed and is it a defo grinding or rubbing noise

or metallic noise  ie metal on metal ??

more info please

IT SEEMS TO DO IT MOST OF THE TIME.

I'VE CARS IN PAST WHERE G/BOX LAYSHAFT BEARING IS WORN, AND IF YOU DEPRESS CLUTCH, NOISE GOES.

STRANGE THING IS, IT CAN'T REALLY BE HEARD FROM UNDER BONNET.

COULD IT BE THE ALTERNATOR BEARING, MAYBE?

OR, AS THE CLUTCH BITES REALLY LOW, THE RELEASE BEARING?

I'M GUESSING, IF IT BITES AT THE BOTTOM, THE BEARING IS ENGAGED ALL THE TIME?

Please refrain from posting messages in capitals.
This is considered as the online version of shouting.

Last KA we had with a constant grinding noise was due to the water pump being on the way out.

Ah.

Water pump. Never thought of that.

Hows the easiest way to check?

Cheers.

You probably need a stethoscope to confirm where the noise is coming from if its mechanically driven. If its driven off the auxiliary belt you may need to take it off. and run it. Its been a long time since I delved into a motor that far.

Hi Clive,

I have the same issue with my StreetKa.

Started to make some grinding noise, and the clutch is super high. Also it is hard a bit to change gears.

service checked it, new clutch and slave cylinder needed.

I think Halfords does free clutch test, check out the website.

Many Thanks.

I do believe its the clutch.

But mine bites about an inch off floor.
